I just picked up my xmas gift for myself (Gear costs for dec= $1400.00 and the months not over yet)
Its a ltd/esp MH-301 - mahogany body, quilted maple top, neck thru, blipity blah. These are much better made then the newer Mh-400 series. This is my 2nd mh-301, and will be my main primary guitars for anoxia. So now i can put my 7string back in b flat.

Merry fucking xmas to my gear whore buying ass

looks pretty sweet...for an esp.... heh... (I am loyal to jackson)

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Dec 23,2004 12:09pm
sweet dood looks awesome.

I prefer the flamed top that's why I searched for a used mh-300.

toggletoggle post by Christraper at Dec 23,2004 12:14pm
thats pretty. looks like it plays nice too.

Yeah, they play extremely nice. I was an ibanez guy for like 9 yrs( i have had 5 ibanez's over the years) But for a guitar that sold for $589 back a few yrs ago(the 300 series are discontinued) they are a great bang for the buck.
I would really like to have a real Esp someday, ron from Leukorrhea has a really nice esp.

yeah looks decent, for some reason I like white guitars...

I'd like to have a white esp with black binding all the way around the body.

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Dec 23,2004 1:10pm
god damn, I want this:

yes, I know it's a PC-1...but it's freakin gorgeous.

toggletoggle post by handinjury at Dec 23,2004 1:35pm
What is that tom? Its a bolt-on, but that top is fucking sweet looking, w/ scalloped frets an real floyd too(?). Rather intresting how the pickup blade switch is surrounded by the knobs.

toggletoggle post by Hooker  at Dec 23,2004 1:46pm
Too strat style ltd no care.

yes it is a bolt on, but high end. yep floyd as well.

it's a jackson PC-1...for some reason I dig em, not the most metal looking but definetly fucking beautiful and I want one.

les pauls are too violin style for me.

toggletoggle post by korpse at Dec 23,2004 1:54pm
hahaha

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Dec 23,2004 1:55pm

and a PC-2, lower end, but still nice. I actually want to get one guitar that's not floyd based so I can easily tune it all over the place without having to block the bridge. I hate the string thru's, I'd prefer to have as similar to a floyd a possible like that.

get rid of the emg hzs in your mhs....its key if you want to be heard.

yeah it really does make a pretty big difference.

toggletoggle post by blue  at Dec 23,2004 2:14pm
especially when hes got this equation going on....

emg hz (fuzzy sounding pickup) + dual rectifier (fuzzy sounding amp) = no defintion in anything whatsoever.

Acutally my recto is a single. And tunning to b dosent help my defintion prolly much.

Waht did you put in your mh-300? (bridge p.u.)
I was thinking on a emg-81 or an dim. x2n. Im not really a fan of active pickups.

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Dec 23,2004 2:44pm
yeah just an 81 in the bridge.

toggletoggle post by blue  at Dec 23,2004 2:48pm
no reason to go dimarzio. lower quality parts and magnets. boooo. go with a higher output duncan instead. a duncan distortion might be good. or you could go the typical route and get an emg like everyone else =(.

sorry, didnt mean to misrepresent your recto. just dont mind me and my enending hatred for rectos.

and tuning to b should hurt the definition in your sound if your using the right gague strings. its all in the recto, baby.

toggletoggle post by Hooker  at Dec 23,2004 3:57pm
Don't you have a line six in your rack?

toggletoggle post by blue  at Dec 23,2004 4:48pm
damn right.

Ron's probably got several really nice Esps, and I have 2 shitty ones

toggletoggle post by blue  at Dec 23,2004 5:07pm
his esp is old, too. its got the jackson headstock on it. that was before they had to change it to the newer style. its gotta be pre 1990 i think.

toggletoggle post by Hooker  at Dec 23,2004 5:09pm
Normally I'd start a useless guitar nerd shit slinging
session with anyone who actually likes line 6 stuff,
but you have pretty damn good tone so I'll leave it alone.

toggletoggle post by blue  at Dec 23,2004 5:10pm
haha! i win. its ok, youve got one of the better recto tones ive heard. so dont worry.

toggletoggle post by Hooker  at Dec 23,2004 5:28pm
I won't.

toggletoggle post by Todd(bombshelter) at Dec 24,2004 5:55am
Andy(life at zero) uses Line 6 i believe and it sounds fuckin sick

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Dec 24,2004 6:47am
you need to get a keytar

toggletoggle post by Niccolai NLI at Dec 24,2004 12:52pm
I had an MH301 a while back. It was green with cream binding. Traded it in though.

toggletoggle post by gorgish at Dec 24,2004 1:11pm
normally i hate digital amps
but when it comes to metal, i think line 6 blows most out of the water

that's why most metal bands use 5150's, jcm800's, mesa, framus, engl, bogner's to record

I believe dimmu borgir used engl on deathcult
and the new hate eternal will be all engl.

yes and yes.

i've been looking to get a new amp head, im not to sure on what i want to get, i was thinking about a 5150, any suggestions?

toggletoggle post by gorgish at Dec 24,2004 3:44pm
if you can get your hands on an old 5150 then maybe. people RANT AND RAVE about how great they are.
either way, i've never heard a 5150 that i like. i think they sound like garbage.
i don't think you can really fuck with the line 6 rackmount if you want scooped death metal sound. everything else is overpriced and lackluster. but everybody else will tell you different. drop 2 grand on a mesa boogie to sound like everyone else!

toggletoggle post by blue  at Dec 24,2004 3:45pm
go for a triple xxx. cheaper and more usable clean sounds too. or you can get the new peavey jsx head. similar to the tirple xxx, only with different clean preamp and a built in noise gate. perfect if you want everything in one. this is merely if youre looking at a tube head. or maybe you should just replace the chameleon (that is what i think you were using) with a new preamp?

toggletoggle post by CongoogetalZobotomy  at Dec 24,2004 3:51pm
i would just get a new preamp if it didn't take forever to figure out how to modify settings on them, it took me forever to figure out how to use the chameleon, it didn't help i didn't have a manual or anything either, i think i just want amp all together.

toggletoggle post by blue  at Dec 24,2004 4:40pm edited Dec 24,2004 4:42pm
if youre worried about trying to create presets easily, then give the tech 21 sansamp psa preamp a try. sooooo easy to use, and so good sounding.

The rackmount PSA is a powerful combination of dazzling analog SansAmp tones, unlimited editing and dependable digital programmability. The result is a phenomenal pre-amp that can be mercilessly tweaked, while favorite sounds can be stored with the push of a button. Each of the expanded range of eight controls, including usefully defined parameters such as Buzz, Crunch and Punch, has 256 incremental steps for ultra-precise adjustments. Shipped with 49 factory presets and 49 user definable locations, the PSA packs a universe of tone in a single rack space.

just dial in the settings and hit save. doesnt get much easier than that. no effects, but everything is so insanely easy to use, it hurts.

.

Dave used that thing for some of the guitar tones on the anoxia album, that and a triple recto.

I wouldn't get a xxx, a 5150 would be a better choice imo and not much more $.

toggletoggle post by CongoogetalZobotomy  at Dec 25,2004 12:29am
yea im still thinkin about the 5150 a place near by has one used for $600 im gonna go down sunday and try it out

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Dec 25,2004 12:31am
xxx's (with 6L6's at least) have a floppy sound to them, not really tight. It depends on what sound you're going for obviously.

well poo on you. i like a useable clean sound, hence the preference. the jsx head is the same $ as a 5150, and better clean & high gain sounds, along with a built in noise gate. woo.

toggletoggle post by CongoogetalZobotomy  at Dec 25,2004 12:33am
i dont really need a clean sound thats why im leaning towards a 5150, i want to get one before they stop making them seeing EVH left peavey, and they are remaking them as 6505's now.

toggletoggle post by Blue  at Dec 25,2004 12:35am
ah, i was wondering what they were going to do with that. what is the difference besides the model name?

toggletoggle post by CongoogetalZobotomy  at Dec 25,2004 12:37am
it looks different, but they say it will sound the same. i dont think it will though

toggletoggle post by CongoogetalZobotomy  at Dec 25,2004 12:41am
anyone know the difference between the 5150 and 5150 II? cuz they just dropped in price by ~$200 only $749 new now

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Dec 25,2004 12:54am
I've never heard a XXX with EL34's but I hear it sounds better than the 6L6's...

toggletoggle post by Blue  at Dec 25,2004 10:04am
the difference is the 5150 IIs have a clean sound that is actually useable. somewhat.

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Dec 25,2004 1:22pm
the new JSX is basically a XXX with EL34's. when it's time for me to change my tubes, i'll probably go with them also.

whoops that was me.

go with the JSX if you need clean. i love my xxx, but the clean channel is pretty much garbage without a ton of effects...unless you like a dirty clean like i do, but still i'm not thrilled with it.

the new version of the 5150 (6505)
I don't like the circle peavey logo...

toggletoggle post by CongoogetalZobotomy  at Dec 25,2004 2:47pm
im most likely going to get a 5150 used, im going to try to talk the guy down in price seeing they are only $750 new now

NECROPHAGIST used an ENGL on epitaph...oh yes, I knew it ;)

ENGL Tube Rackhead 860 to be exact.

well i just put money down on a new 5150 II, daddys priced matched musicians friend who are selling them new for $749 now, and with my $200 trade in for my old DKMG im only paying $587 after tax..
