its true, i hear too much about Buddhism every fucking day. I have realized it is a religion for somone who has the mental ability of a 4th grader, "we breath in the good are and exhale the bad, and that is how we should live our lives" fucking horse shit.

to each their own

but if i had to pick a religion it would definately be buddhism. i think the simplicity of it is what intrigues me.

i try to accept new things with an open mind

toggletoggle post by __THeMoor__  at Dec 11,2004 3:25pm
agreed. buddhism is the most inclusive religion, which makes a hell of a lot more sense for a religion if you think about it.

religion is for the weak of mind and heart... resorting to a higher power for gain and inspiration in life is strangely pathetic

it is your take on things all see differently, i think buddhism if practiced right is plausible

look who studies it, it is mentally disabled people, and washed up hippies, americans use it as a reason to be lazy, and it is a lazy person reliegion. In Buddhism they say it isnt a religion "its a way of life" but yet they pray to Buddha??? hmmmmmm

i think organized religion is a fucking disease, but that mainly applies to christianity in my opinion. other religions, especially buddhism have some interesting aspects. i believe pretty strongly in karma. what you put out is what you get in return. helps me be a good person when all instinct makes me want to vomit at the sight of most human actions.

Hinduism and Buddhism have nothing on the 3 Semetic faiths are far as restriction and short-sightedness go. They still have some foolish outdated customs, but both offer more of a world/universe-view than a dogmatic set of rules and they don't rely nearly as much on fear as do the 3, so I can at least acknowledge some wisdom in these worldviews, even if they are still skewed and imperfect like every human creation.

hmm research does this count.

1. needing to be around it for the last year of my job
2.going to temples and speaking first had with Lamas and Monks from tibet
3. helping my cliant read writings from many llamas
4. Listing to "Dharma Talk" by Tich Nach Han on a weekly basis count

Why must you talk about my asshole like that. So there is some research for you.

toggletoggle post by silky  at Dec 12,2004 10:20pm
that'll do. too many people will talk about how much they hate religion because it's the metal thing to do, but have nothing to back it up.

thanks succubus, I actually made this thread at work, becasue i was having a real fucking annoyingly bad day at work and wanted to strangle one cliant in paticular who i need to do all thsi buddist stuff with like every day. I needed to let some steam off in a way that I wouldn't be taking it out on cliants. Then i would be fired and have no money

i don't like organized religions, but if a religion gets someone through their day and they aren't shoving it up my ass and down my throat, then more power to them. i think all religions have at least one good thing to offer, and the eastern religions seem to be a lot more positive and less littered with propaganda than the other religions and religious organizations.

I figured I'd bring this thread back from the dead just to make a comment to this one above.

In another part of the thread you say you did all this and that, have gone to temple and talked with lamas and monks, etc.. yet you say people pray to the Buddha? Buddhists do not pray to the Buddha, as the Buddha was nothing more than a man who reached enlightenment and left behind his teachings for others to do as they wish to reach wherever they wanted to go. Like other religions that think praying to a God will nullify all the bad stuff we do, Buddhists do not do this.

And yes it is a way of life, not a religion. Religions have unproven limitations. Buddhism is fact/science based and if anything in the "religion" is questioned it is tested. If it proven to be wrong than that part changes to exemplify that.

I have yet to meet a "disable" person who practices Buddhism, but I'm sure there are. As far as saying Americans practice it because they are lazy is ridiculous too. Many Buddhists take their personal time to go out and do things that effect people's lives in a positive way. Whether it being helping out at a soup kitchen, banging nails for Habitat For Humanity, donating things they no longer need, etc.. Many American monks go to prisons to speek with prisoners and try to make their lives better, or go to juvenile halls and talk with the kids, many are at hospitals in case their is a Buddhist admitted they can have someone to talk with in time of need.

But that's just my take on that above post. Sorry for the rant, thank you drive through.

BUDDHISM IS A SOLIPSISTIC FORM OF HINDUISM
IN THE RIGHT HANDS IT CAN BE GREAT
RIGHT NOW, AS USUALLY PRACTICED,
IT'S CHRISTIANITY WITH INCENSE.

it's far from Christianity with incense man. And yes it came about from very basic Hindu ideas, but it far off from what Hinduism is. Hindus believe in god-like entities, Buddhists don't.

exactly.

personally i feel religion is a personal choice; if someone wants to believe in something, or practice a certain faith to better the quality of their lives and it works for them, that's great. religion only becomes harmful when people of the same faith gather together and appoint someone a leader who then exploits and abuses that faith as a means of controlling their "followers" like puppets.

Every one knows Odin is the only way to go, His way is the manliest manly man religion of all.

it is the stuff doom metal is made of, everyone dies in the end.

Odin says to you

"see where I am, you too can be here"

thus proving he is but a man who has been deified because of the good he did for his people.

One day there will be a strange faith were people worship dieties such as mother teresa, charlie sheen, mr.t, chuck noriss.....

one time my friend's girlfriend bailed on the apartment i'm living in now. it cost me a ton of money. and she did it a month after we signed the lease. her reasoning was she was converting to Budhism, and was on a spiritual quest to find herself.

I don't know what happened but somehow that spiritual quest involved her dropping out of college, getting fired from her job at Stop & Shop and becoming a drug dealer who lives on people's couches in Pawtuckett.

You tell me, what's dumber: Budhism or girls.

toggletoggle post by ichabod  at Mar 27,2006 5:54pm
Name me one major war specifically fought with the hegemony of Buddhism as a pretense. I rest my case. It's much more sensible than most, and it's not really "organized religion" unless you join a specific group, which is in no way a prerequisite. Siddhartha was enlightened BY HIMSELF on the bank of a river.

Buddhists in general do not claim to know the truth, but are looking for it to reach enlightenment or nibbana. Buddhists monks only own 3 robes and a bowl, no other worldly possessions, doesn't seem to arrogant to me.

Feel free to convince the Buddhists I've spoken with of that, some of the most arrogant and condescending individuals I've ever seen in any religious debate (not even involving myself). I'm sure not all of them act this way, just like I couldn't say all of any religious group acted in a particular way.

I just find religion arrogant and misguided in general.

I've never heard anyone say it's not a religion. And they don't pray to Buddha, it's moreof a respect thing than it is a worship. It's not all mental people, it's not mental people at all (though mental people could be buddhist if they wanted to). It's probably the most peaceful religion out there, why do you think there haven't been any wars on it? Not to mention we don't go around thinking we exhale all the bad and inhale all the good, because of human being has a small percent of evil in them, it's inevitable. Buddhists aren't mental bullshit like that.

Basically, if you don't like buddhism, then the best thing to do is to just get the fuck over it and stop complaining. I don't think you've done nearly as much research as you claim because some of the things you've said so far are just fucking stupid, as with some other people on this thread. Do some more reading on the shit, and if you still feel the need to bitch feel free, cuz at least this time you might look a little bit smarter.

And if I didn't make it obvious already, I am buddhist.

Nobody says it happens in a week. It can take some people a lifetime to find happiness in buddhism. You just have to take the right steps, and if she feels becoming a drug dealer is her next step to happiness, then by all means let her do it. Cuz who knows where that could lead next (other than prison).

toggletoggle post by sxealex   at Mar 12,2007 12:47am
i wasnt complaining about it btw... its just odd it became an organized religion back in the day. its ideas dont seem to point toward that. they seem like cool ideas. i just believe that you shouldnt do stuff because the wise say to. just listen to what the wise and the dumb have to say then make up your own ideas based on that. other than that its BY FAR the least of the evils. Having a slogan and character to symbolize a belief system is just distracting in my opinion. But sometimes people are looking for just that. if thats yo thang do it up yo.
