New site? Maybe some day.

This is another guy that falls into the Zakk Wylde category....Although he shows more solo ability on albums, he rips shit up live too.
I must say tho, the new band he has is pretty lackluster. |
"pretty lackluster" is the understatment of the decade |
he is a good guitarist though |
dimebag has written waaay more memorable solo's and riff's than zakk wylde will ever write! |
I used to listen to pantera all the time however so I don't despise dimebag or vinnie paul as musicians, just the turds for songs they poop out now |
this thread has taken quite a turn, heh |
yeah the focus turned to shit har har har |
Dime is better than zakk. Zakk is alot more meat and potatoes. But that's not really the issue here. Or... uh... nevermind. |
they're both guitarists who are inconsistent with the music they choose to play, the bands and the songs... |
that 1st black label cd is pretty fucking lame compared to anything pantera did. I like the 1st song though. |
dime forget how to play guitar. when pantera died, so did dimes ability to write brutal riffs. dime used to write extreme music, but all of a sudden pantera breaks up in the middle of nu metals demise, so what does he do? form a nu metal band. |

" dimes ability to write brutal riffs" , " dime used to write extreme music".
hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahaha
Ohh shit, its like comic relief on RTTP today! |
are you insinuating that he didnt write brutal riffs?
because if you are, you are a silly bastid. |
sorry, dime sure as hell wasnt writing death metal riffs. but if you think he wasnt writing some heavy ass shit, i sure as hell dont know what to say. |

Um....YES I AM (but i am a silly bastid thou). Dont get me wrong pantera was fucking great back in the day, but there is nothing "brutal" about pantera. Dime is a great guitar player and has his own sound & tone, a great metal player, but its not brutal, suffocation and gorgasm is brutal. Mouth for war is one of my fav pantera songs , thats not brutal. Its just great heavy metal. The term brutal should only be applied to extrteme situations. Like teratism, thats brutal. Goratory, thats brutal.
But what do i know............................ |
to me, it does not have to be death metal to be brutal. |
If you call yourself a death metal band you have clearance to write brutal riffs. Other than that, sorry pal. It's just the way it goes I guess. |
mouth for war is radio pantera. and I agree that its not a 'brutal' song persey. but, brutal isnt reserved for death metal only.
Reinventing the steel has BRUTAL riffs all day long. |
Sorry man. According to this handbook.... |
they should have gone back to being a glam band insted of being numetal gayness
Hey Terrence!! Wanna start a band?
-Ron McGovney |
It doesn't have anything to do with what subgenre they fit into, the riffs really aren't THAT brutal. Sure PANTERA was a loud live band, cause they could afford equipment.
I certainly wouldn't call PANTERA an out and out Nu/Not-Metal band, but I think it's obvious the impact they had on that style, especially with Vulgar Display, Far Beyond Driven... They had a lot of really really dumb riffs and songs. Good as an introduction to better Metal maybe, but as far as lasting appeal, I just don't see it. Jock Rock... I don't see why people are surprised by what DAMAGE PLAN is like.
As for the subject at hand, I think Darrell had some songwriting talent early on, and soloing/technical talent until today, but nothing innovative or special. |

The sound of brutality, like anything in music, can be subjective. I wouldn't really use the term "brutal" to describe Pantera's overall sound either but some of their stop and go riffs like the ones in Throes of Rejection or 5 minutes alone are pretty violent...
