ANDOVER, Mass. (AP) -- A 4-year-old boy was killed and a woman hospitalized after an alleged drunken driver slammed his SUV into their stalled car in the breakdown lane of Interstate 495.

The boy, Nicholas Drolet, and Dawna Blood, 38, lived at the same address in Merrimac, but it was not immediately known whether she was his mother, said Steve O'Connell, a spokesman for the Essex district attorney's office.

The driver of the sport utility vehicle, 34-year-old Derek Coughlin, of Burlington, was not injured. Authorities said he was being held on $50,000 cash bail pending his arraignment Friday on charges including drunken driving and motor vehicle homicide.

The crash occurred around 6 p.m. Thursday, when Coughlin veered off the highway just south of the I-93 interchange in Andover and struck the car, authorities said. A second car that was stopped in front of the victims' car was also struck, but none of the occupants were injured.

The 4-year-old was thrown from the car. He was taken to Lawrence General Hospital, but did not survive, O'Connell said.

Blood was flown to Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston, where she was listed in fair condition Friday morning, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Not only was the kid thrown from the car, but once he hit the ground, Derek ran him over.
Also, bail was knocked down to $25,000 but he still couldn't come up with it. Next court date is Oct. 26th. He's just rotting in Middleton I guess. That is no place for a white man.
