I've been playing for about 7 years, I feel like I'm sorta at a block in my playing and think I need someone to help me take my playing to the next level. If only there were someone like Darren/Goratory drummer but a metal guitarist looking to give lessons I'd take em up on the offer.

I'd prefer to get lessons from someone into all forms of metal (mainly death metal) and even classical. I won't bother getting lessons from some guy who's not into metal. Things I'd like to accomplish off the top of my head are: arpeggio's/sweeps/soloing theory... right hand technique as well as increasing speed and stamina..

If anyone can give me any info on anyone n' shit, that'd be sick.

thanks.

I charge no money. But I have to conduct the lesson nude, and every fifteen minutes the student has to grope me.

yo, my friend just started comming over every wednesday teaching me about theory. He is extremely good and could show you alot. If you want to come down every Wed., if you don't mind taking the drive, you can take the lessons with me if you want. Its free, and the kid can teach you to shred nasty. Let me know.

Where are you out of? We are in Rochester, NH... Anywhere close to you?

toggletoggle post by Revocation at Jan 9,2007 2:08pm
I teach at a High School in the Boston area as well as privately I generally charge 35 an hour and I know a good deal of jazz/classical theory as well as shred stuff. I have studied with Stump, Lappin and various jazz guitarists. Hit me up if your interested.

Tom,

If you feel like you've hit a wall, lessons might not be the right thing. Even weekly, you're limited to only what you can absorb in a half hour or hour, and then forced to concentrate on executing only that material until the next week. It's good if you know where you want to go, but not so great if you're stuck and don't know where to go.

Theory is also overrated. I mean, it's USEFUL. It helps simplify things a huge amount most of the time, but no matter what it will ALWAYS be reverse engineering. I can play a boxed major scale starting on C in E minor, and do I need to know what mode it is? Not really. The more modes, scales, and voice leading you learn the more you realize that it's not so much the scale intervals that change, it's their relation to the overall key. Experiment, move things around, there's only 12 notes to choose from at the end of the day.

Again, basic study and lessons are GREAT. Lessons are GREAT. But only if you know what you want out of them. For instance, go to a site like www.chopsfromhell.com and check out the oodles of free video and audio lessons. Choose a bunch of everything, and work on them. Eventually when you find something particular you like, bring it to a good teacher and ask them to expand on it. For instance, I just picked up an hour lesson from a friend on string skipping, as I found a few good excercises, but was still having trouble doing them.

Whoa, I just saw the date of the post. Holy necro.

And you haven't called my cell phone. You sure you got the right number? My email is petefrommasscore@hotmail.com, but it sucks and takes like 2 days for me to actually get emails most of the time.

toggletoggle post by Niccolai   at Jan 9,2007 2:38pm

I'll shoot an email.

Seriously, go to bob beal, he is hands down the best guitarist in this area. he plays for the band the screen, also Mr Vertigo and like 20 other bands. He works at Daddys in portsmouth.
