yeah, the no drugs or drinking thing is if there's a noise complaint, and there's bottles everywhere, kids under 21 drunk, weed smoke and people popping pills, we get a SHITLOAD more fucked than if we're just making some tunes in the basement.

That said, keep that in mind and respectfully work around it and we're golden.

I personally think promoters should try to be aware of metal shows in the same area on the same day and book accordingly. A half hour to 40 minute drive is a good way to judge, in my opinion of course.

It all depends on the line up too, this show would not effect one of my shows. My biggest thing is Anne's shows I guess, we exist in the same scene because we rule and I am an egomaniac.

Anne doesn't have a show that night...

If this is your first show, heed these words of wisdom:

-- Do not hang out in front of the house. It just draws negative attention to the show.
-- If you are not in a band, please park a little ways up the street so as not to have 500 cars in front of the house.
-- Please, no drugs or alcohol at the show. Most people don't mind a little noise, but do mind some noise with 50 drunk people rolling around smoking pot, especially if there's people under 21 around.
-- Try to stay inside or wherever Nathan has said is ok (if he says upstairs, that's dope too...but not in his bedroom if he asks you not to). Backyards and decks are usually cool, but front yards are almost always a no-no.
-- When outside, KEEP YOUR VOICE DOWN, please. The basemeent is fairly soundproof but yelling outside causes a disturbance that is unnecessary.
--Have fun, kick back, enjoy the show!!

this was a damn good time, i got to see some of my bro's, meet some new talent and smash my fucking head on the door....man i was a bit buzzing by ascendancy...i ran out during there set to take a quick piss and on my way back i bashed te fuck outta my head...this is nasty by the way....i came home to find a chunk of skin with hair stuck in it in my hair...im bleeding and have dried blood on my hands and head...just noticed now...woo hoo...blood for the metal \m/

the first band did some very interesting guitar stuff, and though not my thing...i digged it!

next band was pretty rad too.
porphyria kicked my fucking ass! they rock out with their cocks out! hell yeah!!
i think i missed a band, because me porphyrias' singer, and some other guy that i didnt officially meet went to the store for brews and food.
ascendancy as always were awesome

over all an awesome night,, and a good turnout, despite the fact that half of the first 2 bands fans left when the shit was just starting!

nice to see jeremy,aaron, carina, tom and his boys and all of porphyria...and nice o finally meet the silver boys!

the place was fun, a little hot and I brained myself going into the celler to see pfap, but cool. a lot of people showed up and nate's padres were chiva too.

where i left her head: I've never heard of this band before, but I knew some of the members (ex-farewell chapter and the:enclitic). it was great to see brian again after a long time and see him singing again. the vocals were a heck of a lot different than the:enclitic. those solely-hi-pitch shrills are now almost gone. mostly screams and low growls. they were also cool for sticking around for a while to see some of the other bands.

pray for a plague: the 3-piece is not a 5-piece, but they only played as a 4-piece tonight. the imfamous "serpentor" lang only knows 2 songs on 2nd guitar so he was absent. as they played, I kept thinking two things
1) damn, the drummer's good
2) damn, I need to get these guys into the station and get them on cd ASAP! (I believe I'm shooting to get them in on oct 4th)
the re-addition of the bass is great. His calm-faces seems so out of place to the lineup of the band.
I heard that necro's doing some guys vocals on their cd... oh wait, I juts made that up.

the taste of silver: not 2 minutes after I recount to myself about my first time see them and the singer, rowan, hurling on the floor. I figured he mustn't do it every show... and then PURGE! on the floor is a sloppy mess for someone to clean up! anyhow, tos's set was killer. nick, being the social-consious and all around great guy gave more $$ to ascendancy since their stuff got stolen when they were in peru.

porphyria: lots of head banging going on. they asked for it and they got it. there was even some moshing that went on during their one and only mosh-part that they announced well before hand. these guys are pretty brutal. the cool thing is that I notice more and more of tom working his way into playing with porphyria. I know at the being he was all back-up, I mean shawn was the sole guitarist for a while, but he's doing more along with shawn. I think hearing more of their songs with all 5 members writing is going to be better and better. they were actually going to be playing a 7th song, but tim didn't write lyrics for it yet. they whole set, I was waiting for them to slow down and play some slam parts.

ascendancy: que burla y que sick! pues, los hombres de peru para la primera vez, jugaron en los EEUU. los dioses de metal rocked out y tocaron niguana hostage. hay penis grandes? no, no grandes. anyhow, enough spanish. their sent was so funny and great at the same time. they were playing for the first time in the US since their rock-star tour of Peru where they headlined. for you in the US, headlining mostly means "playing last". down there, headlining means headlining. the set was made more awesome by the completely re-dick-u-lous comments made by the audience.

OMG! dan! I hit my head and then I was taking my hair tie out and there was a huge thing of hair that came out. I thought back to see if I had been in chemo, but then remembered the damn door-to-head thing.
no blood though, but I can feel a little cut.

pps: carina's no-bra should have gotten us a ton of tips, but everyone at the show was either

review:

*Where I Left Her Head: This band brought a ton of people, which I did not anticipate. They were originally psyched on playing with The Sawtooth Grin which made it sad to tell them TSG had to cancel some tour dates. Either way, and despite them going out of tune many times, I dug them. I liked The Farewell Chapter better (and the later version of T:E less...Josh Hale added a lot to T:E) but I would play with these dudes again, yeah. Maybe they didn't have the metal look, but there was enough to make this band metal as far as anyone just hearing them from a CD.

*Pray For A Plague: First MA show? Did not know that till their set! Cool! Kyle was more tame than usual, as far as going crazy, but the bass fleshes out their sound. They are starting to hold their own and become a band that sticks out. I still think, when they have their moments, that calling them "GG Allen style Grind" is a good description. If you haven't heard them, go see them and judge for yourself. They are worth hearing, great guys, and underrated fo sho.

*The Taste Of Silver: We set up as quickly as possible and played an abbreviated set so we could make sure if there were any issues, Porphyria and Ascendancy could play...and to make sure the crowd wouldn't get tired and go home. I had a blast. We fucked up the last two songs, but I bet no one really noticed and it was funny anyway. I never really turn around when we play, so I had no idea Rowan had thrown up...I looked at the puke and didn't even realize it was his! hahahaha...weird. He sings from the gut, it was 9 Million degrees in there, and he had eaten before we played, so there you have it. Thanks to everyone for being so supportive, we really had a lot of fun and it was SOOOO nice to have people sing along and get involved. Much appreciated.

*Porphyria: Awesome band, people loved them (except that one guy who posted in all caps that I remember going down on 2 dudes at once in the bathroom). They should play basements every day. The singer did not want us to circle pit during Ascendancy, but he's still a funny guy and was really nice. I love that solo...that melodic one...with the tremolo bar and shit...I forget what it's called....It's track 3 on the live CD

*Ascendancy: Ok, what was everyone talking about? This band is really a good band to have in a small spot. They are HUGE sounding and in a tiny room it's like those porns with HUGE black DICKS and TINY white CHICKS...it's insane and like totally pornographic. The drummer is an animal. He's so fast and like a million beats a minute, and at several points did other stuff while doing blasts....I actually laughed it was so awesome. I was hypnotized by the overwhelming nature of the t00nz so sorry if I seemed so out of it. It was like if you watched people get gutted in front of you and you just shut down and are like BWAAAAAAAAHHHH...and ooze on the inside.

Nathan was AWESOME to hook us all up, and his parents were not only cool about it, but SUPPORTIVE!!! They told us not to worry about cleaning (though I picked up the lawn), Nathan gave us a thing of lemonade iced tea at the end, his dad was way for the shows (telling us how easy it is for them to pull it off cause the neighbors are his in-laws). And Nate's Mom came down and during Ascendancy, leans over to Nate, and I heard her say to him "My! They're very good!". Now that's just plain METAL!

We finally got to be one of those bands that didn't pratice for a month, then plays a show, yay. Felt good to hear ya'll busting our balls in english telling us jokes and not begging for us to play venom covers in spanish. I'd play at Nate's again in a heartbeat! I'm so fucking sore from not playing for awhile.

and honestly, the more I hear Ascendancy the more I get what I think is a good impression of maybe not what they are going for, but where they fit in. They actually, to me, are one of the most original bands I have heard in a while. I can elaborate on this if any body cares.

PRAYFORAPLAGUE- as always incredibly fucking brutal even despite a broken string (but thats to be expected when you do the things the guitarist does) and especially with there bassist back who i must say is one of the best ive ever seen. i know because he is me. and i cant wait to see these guys with a 2nd guitarist. lovely.
THETASTEOFSILVER- one of my favorite bands right now, and im not trying to suck anyones dick but there just a bunch of creative sal and sandys. thats that. plus the sex appeal is there.

I think Joe NotCommon made a good point when he said things like a Hand-On approach to getting shows booked get a bad rap because they've long since only been associated with Hardcore.

Truth is, he's right. It became so genre specific at one point that the kids in doing these shows even called their music "DIY" as the label. But really, that's kind of erroneous -- much like metal and other music has "emotion" behind it and isn't "emo", doing stuff to improve the texture of a community is no more one "scene" than another.

Really, that's been kicking metal in its ass for a while...people got lazy and turned away from being involved and it made it so a few hands did all the work, and they got tired or ran out of time etc etc and everyone suffered. Doing it right is an artform in itself, but just plain doing it is still doing it as far as putting stuff together to help out.

Joe made a good point that not everyone needs to be involved, and felt even that not everyone SHOULD be involved, but those that are play a vital role...

That said, it all comes down to the fact that basement shows are just a place to do a show that has it's own pros and cons like everywhere else. They are completely viable for metal, country and western, whatever...yeah we think punk with them, but in the end metal has its roots in the basement and the garage, the warehouse and the shitholes all alike.

plus Metal tends to have a punk ethos attached (I cite Napalm Death covering "Nazi Punks Fuck Off" from The Dead Kennedys)

wow, what a good time last night! The past couple shows were two of the funnest we've played yet. Got to shoot teh shit with everyone, Heard some awesome south amterican stories from Terence/Ascendancy... I didn't get the chance to chat with josh about the seniorita's down there yet but I'll have to arrange that for this saturday

where i left her head: I watched some of their set from behind the door, looked pretty good. I remember a couple of them from the farewell chapter, my old band HSM had played with them a couple times.

Alex should be in cephalic carnage. crazy crazy vox!!! silky didn't have enough room to really thrash around. They got tim lang on 2nd guitar now but he still wasn't even there even though he can't play some of the stuff yet. I'll be looking forward to seeing that as well.

taste of silver: ripped it up...seemed like nicks guitar stayed in tune much better this time around. I think rowan's vocals are getting better each show I see them play. Fortunately we were unloading gear when he puked. I was near the door and I told people I smelled poop and they said he puked but I'm pretty sure there was poop too.

Porphyria: the most untrue metal band, they have no brutal parts it's basically a blink 182 cover band. why are these guys playing shows? jeeezzus.

Ascendancy: fuckin awesome! I'm glad to have seen their first show back from their SA tour. It had been way too long since I've seen them all. It was fun, everyone was dancing and fuckin around and pushing eachother. haha. I can't wait for saturday! TROOOOOOOOOPERRRRRR.
