I don't know what it would be considered but the only time he ever showed me something I liked was Agnostic Front - Cause For Alarm. Otherwise I just couldn't get into it.

Agnostic Front is hardcore. They started off hardcore punk, and then - over the years - sort of drifted into that new "wiggery" floorpuncher hardcore stuff.

The wikipedia article on crust is a fairly interesting (and accurate) read.

interesting. I always knew that black metal and punk walked hand-in-hand in ways, I just never cared for the latter. Even the new Darkthrone, while well written and enjoyable, doesn't do it for me.

There is a lot of really good "blackened crust" out there that is much better than what Darkthrone was doing. Also, I took a look at the wikipedia link and it is pretty much on the mark.

I mock crusties a lot (hence the thread) but I actually like crust punk music. Maybe this weekend I'll put up a crust thread of the good stuff....

Anyway, the crust look is really cool in stage photos and on the back of 7" records, but the infusion of drug addled soap abhorring transients does dominate peoples opinions. A lot of the "crusties" I have come across aren't really deeply into the music. Think of the circles of crusties at the Maryland Death fest that just slept in the parking lot and never went into the show. There are homeless heroin addicts that found a look and subculture they could drift around and blend into. (I mean, how are you going keep your Nausea - cybergod 7" and Misery - "Children of War" EP from breaking when your running from Bulls in the trainyard)

There is this awesome site dedicated to photos and interviews with crusties in new york city. It was fucking beautiful. But in it you can see how many of them were leaches and just trouble making drug addicts. I'm going to search for it and post a link.
