I just think the "not enough time" excuse specifically is bullshit. Obviously some people literally have NO time between their three kids, two part time jobs and college classes and whatnot.

But this girl specifically, spends about four-six hours a day on Facebook and Tumblr. That's what I meant, I guess I should've clarified.

Also yeah, i'm amazed by how fucking huge Game of Thrones has become. Although, to be fair, the books were bestsellers and George RR Martin sold out his booktours and whatnot before even the show came out. (although, that's largely due to HP and LotR making everyone love fantasy and ASOIAF being one of the few fantasy franchises that exploded during this window)

And you're right, ASOIAF isn't classic literature. But I get the impression that if A.) the fandom maintains and B.) the books ends in a way that makes MOST people happy, that it WILL be classic literature in thirty years.

Also, your music comparison falls on deaf ears. Most people who "don't have the time" to check out a band or album or whatever either just don't give a fuck, are forgettful or are just all around lazy and uninterested in expanding their tastes. It takes 30 minutes to give a band a good try. For books, it takes about a hundred pages at the least - which for many people could take hours. However, reading IMO doesn't require much effort when compared with television, so if you're going to be seeing or reading something and either way will be wasting HOURS and hours of your life... why not just go with the original?

Obviously everyone can do what they want with their past times, just like how i'm not going to start watching sports any time soon, but it's just something interesting to think about.
