There is a big difference between two bands like NIN and Iron Maiden, and just saying "oh that was a metal band" doesn't paint an accurate picture to someone of what a band sounds like. Saying "NIN was some industrial band and Iron Maiden was a power metal band" all of a sudden gives people a reference to work with.
