I've definitely heard multiple accounts both directly and indirectly that punks in the 80s were either "not supposed to like punk" or that just a lot of people hated it. That's the thing I'm saying too though, without hardcore punk you wouldn't even have thrash or any of the faster genres of metal at all. Perhaps punk kids were just mad that metalheads only got something out of the music and not the message. OH WELL
