Obviously individual bands have individual styles. If one is using it as a description and generalization of the country's sound per se, that'd be completely obsolete in this day and age. I've ALWAYS organized my black metal by countries and years albums came out. I found it quite interesting in knowing what countries bands are from, especially when there's folk elements involved. This lead me to delve deeper into obscure countries for black metal, and more into Asian metal. In basic principal though, any BM fan that listens to early-mid 90s BM and was to choose which country the band would be from (Norway, Sweden, etc), it should be fairly simple to decipher as both were molding their own niche of a sound at the time. Obviously it's not the same any more, and there's so many bands. USBM to me is simply an acronym to describe that the band is from the US, nothing less nothing more. It's changed, and more and more bands are emulating the euro style. It all depends on how one want to organize their catalogue.. To me, countries and years albums came out were pretty important, regardless of how the band sounds.
