I just got called by this Christian lady, although she COMPLETELY disguised it until the very end, saying she was asking about a survey on whether I think any government could ever be capable of achieving peace.

I confounded her (and looking back, totally fucked up her game plan) by being more optimistic than she was, and she's like well what about this, and I'm rebutting her and making her sound like an idiot - then she's like, it's good to be optimistic, but you have to be realistic. I went into all this negative stuff on the same points she brought up but way further, and I turned it around on her again by pointing out the things to be optimistic about in spite of it, using the very arguments she presented as examples.

Five minutes into me winning every back and forth of the debate, her entire pitch to get me to say "oh the Earth is doomed! please save me!" apparently dashed, she's finally like "well I can guess from what you said there that you believe in evolution", and I shoot back without a millisecond pause "well SURE, like any sane person". With an uncomfortable laugh and sounding almost defeated, she's like "well, I'm calling to talk about God's..." then I cut in "sorry I don't believe in that crap" *click*

In retrospect, I had spent about five minutes both unknowingly insulting this woman repeatedly (I had the random awesome luck of saying to her in the course of making a point "people in the Middle Ages thought we'd only been around for thousands of years when we've been around for millions" HA HA HA) while - perhaps even more devastating - at the same time I was showing her by example an atheist can be more optimistic and upbeat than a supposedly happy and optimistic Christian.

I really think I may have shattered her whole world view. At least I did something productive this morning.
