Anal Cunt's hate-folk classic "Picnic of Love" gets vinyl re-release, tour

Back in 1998 -- back before the world had heard a peep from DEVENDRA BANHART, and ANAL CUNT was still the most vicious grindcore band on the planet -- A.C.'s Seth Putnam perpetrated one of the great metal jokes of all time. Rather than follow up with more music to disembowel puppies by, he wrote PICNIC OF LOVE, a note-perfect satire of love songs, soft balladry, folk music -- hell, a satire of the possibility of happiness itself. Delivered in a whispery falsetto backed by Neil Young-ish acoustic guitar, the songs are perhaps the most shocking thing the band has ever done.

Before and since, Anal Cunt were known mostly for their complete lack of decorum, so it's a minor miracle they had the discipline to carry out songs like "We're Saving Ourselves For Marriage," "In My Heart There's A Star Named After You," and the unforgettable "I Respect Your Feelings as a Woman and a Human" without breaking character. If, a decade later, Picnic of Love sounds like a cross between BON IVER and RAY LAMONTAGNE -- well, that's purely coincidental.

The Anal Cunt catalogue is never popular and almost always mostly out of print, so we're stoked that Seth has finally gotten around to bringing out Picnic of Love on vinyl -- the better for dusting off your record player, your father's dashiki, and some bad dope (all requirements for making it through this album without punching your lover, or yourself, in the face.)

In conjunction with the re-release, A.C. is hitting the road for a brief four-date tour during which Putnam will field the barely-ever-seen acoustic version of the band. Your choices include a gig at Church, in Boston, on January 18 2010, but something tells us the "secret party" in Everett is gonna be the one to see.

Of course, for all you losers without record players, PICNIC OF LOVE is already streaming on YouTube...
