I would highly not recommend this and just look for a WD 500GB passport (best buy sometimes has them on sale for $100 if you have some gift certs kicking around). The reason is cause with an external case, it won't be as solid AND you will be tempted to pull it apart when you need to tx from other 2.5" hd. that's my problem atleast.
