If you're going to get a V4, and you want high gain sounds for metal, I suggest dropping some loot on a really nice OD pedal. There's no way in hell you'll be able to get it cranked enough to saturate hard, without going deaf. They are seriously fucking loud. I've never gotten mine to breakup enough for the sound I want without it being WAY too loud to stand in front of.

I've also never turned mine up past 10 o'clock, after which my drummer asked me to turn down.

But all that aside, I fucking LOVE mine. Like seriously. It's THE sound I've been looking for. With some help from my Fulltone OCD pedal (w/ a boost in front of it for the really high gain shit), it's so heavy and thick. The EQ section is the best sounding and most versitle I've encountered. The switchable midrange is a god send for carving out a little low mid, or adding some upper midrange presence. The subtractive high EQ does an amazing job of eliminating all the harsh, nasty bullshit that just hurts your ears. The low end is unbelievably massive. I keep the bass knob at zero most of the time (unless I'm playing more doom-styled riffs). It's a very 'chameleon-like' amp that is capable of a huge range of sounds.

Awesome for bass too. Breaks up quicker than guitar, for a nice distorted bass sound.

If you get it, I would recommend sending it to a competant tech for a check up. Mine was a little noisy and the tubes weren't biased optimally, but after having it serviced by a real tech., it blows me away.

$500 is a good price these days. I got mine for $450. I see them regularly on Ebay for as much as $800, so even if you don't like it, you've already gained on your investment, and can make a profit flipping it.

I'll see about posting a song that I recorded recently with mine, so you can hear an example of some of the different tones it's capable of.

Oh, and the reverb smokes, if you're into reverb. Super clean.

Let us know how you like it, if you get it. I'd be interested to see if it suits your style.
