Sorry if I'm wrong. I'm going mainly by stories I've heard. And I'm sure you know those can be exaggerated greatly. I've never actually owned a pair. I've used other people's a few times and didn't like it. I always thought Ahead sticks were too heavy, had an unnatural feeling rebound (similar to marching tenor mallets), and didn't produce a good cymbal sound.
