Maybe it takes knowing someone (or in my case being closely related to someone) there to see it my way, but there is no fucking joking when it comes to their lives that they volunteer to put on the line there. Politics aside, the strain that gets put on their family life and what they sacrifice physically is something most unappreciative Americans could never understand.
