HTL- I don't understand how you can think this country isn't special. Yes, we're fucked up. No, we're not perfect and we do some horrific shit. But we have the right to complain about it. We can have as many kids as we want, We women can go to school and wear what we please. We have no national religion (supposedly) and no one is going to stone you to death if they see your ankles. If our freedoms and the remarkable things we've accomplished in our very few years as a country mean so fucking little to you, get the fuck out.
This war kills me. I watch the news and want to cry. I think we really dropped the ball on a lot of things, but the reality of the situation is, we can't leave now. Bushie got us in way too deep. Do I mourn the kids and women and innocent civilians that are dying in heaps? YES. Does that make us a barbaric and horrible country worthy of your CONSTANT fucking complaining? NO. War sucks. It's ugly and unfair. We didn't need to invade Iraq and now the can of worms is wide open, so we can either look for ways to solve these problems, to help these people, to do what we can...or we can sit around a whine about what a horrible country we are.

What the fuck is the matter with you? Why do you spend so much time reading articles and learning about the injustices in the country and beyond if you don't love this country? You wouldn't be able to whine about this shit in most countries. They'd hunt you down and kill you. So be fucking GRATEFUL you were born here where you have fucking rights. Worry about those rights being upheld, worry about the issues in this country, but don't you dare think this country isn't special and go on living here. You cannot say you want things to be better here, or that you want the US to be better to others and say in the same breath that we're just nothing special. Your horrible negative attitude and lack of love for this country is PART OF THE PROBLEM, not the fucking solution.

I never said this country wasn't special, so I don't know what that's all about, I said we're not special, people who happen to be born here aren't any more special than anyone else. We're not entitled to any more or less than anyone born anywhere else. Bush got us into Iraq, yet we continue to allow him to run the country and screw things up for the world, we're being complacent with this while people continue to die, including 2,600 of Hoser's pals so far, and I think that does make us a barbaric and horrible country worthy of my constant complaining. You can watch the news and cry and then turn the other cheek and deny any involvement by keeping your mouth shut, or you can use your right to free speech while you still have it and wake some people up. Loving the land one lives on and the government that controls it are 2 very different things.

Oh I turn the other cheek? I am complacent? Really. I was unaware of that. I must have dreamed volunteering for the Kerry campaign and then The Coalition for Social Justice, Planned Parenthood, and the Coalition Against Poverty for the last year. Funny. Letters I've written, rallies I've attended, calls I've made...all nothing...I'm glad you let me know cause here I thought I was trying to make positive changes with my time instead of spitting alternet.org talking points all over a music message board.
