"The 28th annual Scandinavian Fair will be held on Saturday, November 5th, 2005. It is sponspored by Morgensolen Lodge # 545, Sons of Norway and always held on the first Saturday in November.

There are about 22 000 people of Norwegian heritage in Massachusetts alone, and many more in New Hampshire and Maine. Sons of Norway is a non-for-profit organization. The local lodge, Morgensolen # 545, meets the second Friday of the month, September through May, at the Masonic Temple, Beverly, MA. At the fair there will be Scandinavian gifts, sweaters, sweatshirts, books, jewelry, Christmas gifts, bakery items and much more for sale. Open-faced sandwiches will be served and the coffee pot is always on. There will be demonstrations in Norwegian rosemaling, Scandinavian folk dancing, carving etc. Outside the building there will be Norwegian Fjord Horses. Students of Winthrop Massachusetts High School have built a replica of a Viking ship, a bed, a loom, a yarn winder, a metal Viking helmet, and a chain-maille armored vest, and have a table model of a longhouse and a table model of a replica of wagon found in a Viking burial ship.

When: November 5 at 9.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m
Where: Topsfield Fairgrounds, Route 1, MA
Info: Valerie C. Faxon (978) 462 2439"

I went to this last year, it was decent. I got a viking ship tapestry, my buddy got a viking ship belt buckle. The "replica" viking ship, though, is a total flop - the one last year was about 3 feet long and in danger of being crushed by a midget.

I'm trying to convince people to come this year but it is seeming to be a tough sell.
