i think everyone has done a good job describing their opinions on music; all of them are true, and there are a shitload of other opinions that can be true, solely because music is a form of art, and all forms of art should definitely have a personal attachment, whether to the person(s) who created the art or those who experience it. i listen to music for probably every single reason it is created, excluding obvious reasons like money, trends, pleasing the masses, etc.

i listen to pretty much every form of music in one form or another, whether i like it or not. the only forms of music i HATE are country, emo, and "pop" which i consider to engulf such styles as nu-metal, bubble gum pop, all this new wave and retro bullshit, 99% of the "hip hop," if you can really call it that, that is consumed by the public eye, etc.

when it comes to heavier music, feeling is always the most prevalent and overwhelming, in a good way. when i write a song, i don't think to myself "alright, it's time to create the most technical or brutal sounding music ever just for the fuck of it." i just start playing, and if i feel that technicality is needed, or the fastest speed picking i can humanly produce sounds right, that's what feels right to me.

i definitely hear a lack of feeling in the most modern music that is attracting the most attention, but sometimes i just don't care. if it sounds good and some sort of integrity is there, i'm all for it. bands like black dahlia murder definitely rip off at the gates and some of their peers, but i can tolerate it since it's not done very poorly. it's fun music, but it definitely gets old quick. there are a great number of bands that i consider far worse than BDM in this aspect, especially since they've been doing it since before it really surfaced as being " the cool thing to do".

i could go on forever, but i don't think this is a novel forum, haha
