Motel Hell was awesome, when i was a kid and i saw Farmer Vincent put on a decapitated pigs head and throwing around a chainsaw i pissed underoos. And you are right that he went for the rawness of victimization, he wanted the viewers to feel passionately for the victim and almost dirty and violated by the whole concept of monsters, torture, rape and blood and guts, which it seems that alot of newer horror movies stray from.
