I've been going at the gym for a while now but I need some kind of routine, I can't afford to pay for a personal trainer even for 1 hour as I think it's $90 or some shit like that.

This is what I usually try to do:
day1: 20 min bike ride, 45 min (+) cardio, 20 min weightlifting (usually I try to do arms, legs, abs 2 reps of 15, but there's too much to choose)
day 2: if I can 45 min cardio, plus 20 minutes bike ride
day3 same as day 1
day4 2 hours bike ride/flyering...
day5 same as day 1
then I usually take 2 days off

My question is should I work out specific part of the body the same week, and then switch the week after, or should I switch parts every other day, or should I work out my whole body in the same session?

I hope someone can help and that I'm not going to take too much shit for this post...

4 days a week at the gym. Chest and bicepts, legs, shoulders and back, tricpeps. I try to stick to that routine as much as possible.

i just joined a gym again and i'm just doing cardio to get back into it. i have asthma so i can't work out that hard or i'll die. hehehe.

i think switching parts everyother day sounds right, tho. i'll have to ask my husband, the workout geek.

yeah, working out different muscles every day is the way to do it. if you work the same muscles every day, they dont have time to rest and graow/get cut. when i used to have more time to work out, i would start every day with stretching and calsithenics, then focus on cerain muscle groups for ceratin days...mondays were arms, tuesdays legs, wednesday chest, thursday stomach, etc...

you just have to adjust cerain things to be really sucessful at it...eat tiny meals, but eat often as it keeps your metabolism going and actaully helps build muscle and burn calories rather than a few large meals during the day. when my father was really serious into bodybuilding, he set his alarm clock to off every hour every night to get up and eat something to keep his metablism going.

also, remember that everything is interconnected and has an effect on the rest of your body. did you knwo that cardiovascualr activities like running actually shrink muscle mass? that's why body builders who focus on the upper body dont run at all, because it would detrimental to their desired shape.

hope this helps.

It depends on what you want out of it. Do you want to build mass and be larger or do you just want to tone and be healthy? I think cardio is boring and gay so I don't do it very often. I weight train every body part every week in a 4 day rotation. Chest, back, legs, tris, bis (abs every day) in whatever combination works best for you -- and don't be afraid to change things up as long as you give muscles time to recover.
xtomx nli is right about small meals often, but that's hard to do if you're working fulltime and playing shows. Eat lots of protein and stay away from junk. Lift aggressively at the gym, but try to enjoy it. If you get yourself to enjoy lifting, you won't skip days and you'll stick with it.

Oh and I forgot shoulders.

toggletoggle post by Aegathis  at Aug 26,2004 8:55pm
I usually workout on my little excercise doohickie in my basement, which is like a bowflex but not as good. I used to do it everyother day but its hard for me to get myself to want to, seen as how ive been doing all this outside labor all summer long. When i go back to school i should be able to do the old routine.

Whats exercise?

toggletoggle post by korpse-l- at Aug 27,2004 8:18am
i only go 2 times a week for about 2 hours each time and it seems to work just fine. the more you rest your muscles, the more strength you'll have the next time you lift (for me anyway). i haven't been doing cardio though i should start again because i drink too much.

day 1 - Chest / Back / Shoulders
4 sets of each exercise (12-10-10-8 reps while increasing weight)
- Lat Pull Down
- Flat Bench press
- Shoulder press
- seated rows
- incline dumbell press
- shoulder shrugs

Day 2 - Bi's / Tri's
- over head tricep pull w/cable
- nautilus bicep machine
- skull crushers
- hammer curls
- tricep pulldown
- isolated preacher curl

yes.

I might join a gym in a month, once my finances are set. I have a clear plan to get myself back on my feet and still work the label right.

I'm a girl so I don't want to build up too much, I just basically want to get rid of some fat here and there and be healthy. The small meals stuff is tough cause I stay 8 hours non stop at the store, I've been trying but really I don't think I can do that. I stay away from junk, I'm vegetarian anyway so I have to be carefull what I eat, the protein thing is not a problem either.
I'm going to start rotating as you said. Abs and cardio every day are necessary as I drink so much beer...I will never get rid of my beer belly I can garanty that (I don't really care anyway)..
But thank you all for the info...it's kind of nice to read all this, motivating in a way. I saw the same kind of post on the Relapse board once but I'd rather ask here..as the Relapse board kind of sucks anyway...

I have a wick routine involving coming into work in the morning and...
*point**click**movemovemove*point**click**click**click*
repeat.

honestly, I usually ride 18-40 miles 3-4 days a week on my bike... but this summer I've been so busy with the new place to get my bike really working so i've only done 1 7 or so mile ride... I suck!

you can smoke pot and blow a couple lines, raise your heart rate some and theres your cardio

toggletoggle post by kellthevalkyrie  at Aug 27,2004 2:16pm
*lifts beer can to mouth*

ahhh. now that's a workout!

anyway, i wish i had the time and motivation to be more active, but, well, sadly, that's not how it's going right now.

HIGH reps low weights if you don't want to build too much muscle

toggletoggle post by JayTUS   at Aug 27,2004 2:29pm
I lift the donut and put it in my mouth. Sometimes I interchange that regimine by sitting on my ass and typing on the computer. It's doing wonders for my figure!

i'm just starting to get back into a regular workout routine (or at least trying). the routine i used to do that worked best for me was:
1-2 hours weightlifting:
first stretches, then 50 sit ups, 50 crunches, 50 bicycle crunches
3 sets of 20 push-ups
4 sets of 15 chest (either benching or i believe butterflies is what the other exercise is called)
4 sets 15 shoulder press
3 sets 20 shoulder shrugs
3 sets 15 flies
3 sets 15 preacher curls
2 sets 10 regular curls
2 sets 20 fore arm curl

second day would either be 4 miles on a bike or 2 miles walking/running.

alternated those 2 schedules every other day for 6 days of the week, rested 1 day and got back into it. now i'm trying to do the same weightlifting exercises, and hiking my bikeriding up to 8-12 miles. i want to start incorporated more leg weightlifting too. my legs are huge, but i want more tone. fah shizzle

my mom rode 200 miles in 2 days on a bike

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Aug 27,2004 2:52pm
my mom does that shit too...ridiculous. every year she does the MS bike ride. it's like 160 miles or something crazy like that. most i've done in one day is 48, and i was dead after that, haha

oops sorry for caps...i wasn't paying attention to the screen and i was using caps for an application here at work

dohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 27,2004 3:07pm
most i've done in a day was 100 miles and my ass was killing me...
I did 56 miles one day a few summers ago... I need to remember to bring more water if I want to attempt 100.
I almost died in the sun trying 56.

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Aug 27,2004 3:09pm
you see, biking all that would be a problem for me...

ONLY BECAUSE if you are biking that far in NH or MA you're bound to do some riding on large roads and then i'd get hit by a car and get squished

i need some abs!

when I used to have a drum set my friend and I would do a blast beat for a minute and then curl weights . While I would blast he would curl and then switch until we were totally out of breath. Good times, now I just go to a gymn...

Make an "instrument of torture"
...Take a SINGLE SMALL dumbell bar,,( 12" or so) put a 25 on each side,,then a two 10s on each side ,,then a 5 on each side.....it should look like a fuckin anvil...put palms under the wheel, lift to chest, then curl arms up as many as possible...

lift over head press upwards..all sorts of fun...improvise with this thing every day.. for martial artists,,make a punching board.

toggletoggle post by Arrik_ at Aug 27,2004 3:56pm
MOSHING

toggletoggle post by Arrik at Aug 27,2004 3:59pm
The "instrument of torture" is dangerous,,,make sure the weights are clamped nice and tight....especially if doing overhead stuff.

also,,I almost put a hole through my floor dropping the thing too fast!!!

no kids, pets, girlfriends ect,,,should be close by.
