It took me a minute to snap into it. For some reason, everyone is named like Troghachchk Pedthe and then the main people are just plain ass old Paul and Jessica. |
I just started reading this actually, not because of the movie, but Brian from Black Dahlia Murder is a huge fan and did a write-up on the series for a zine. I dig it so far. |
What I find is odd is that they just drop you into the mythos. The first bit was me freaking out that I didn't know what the hell all the things were, but once you let that anxiety go and just continue on, it's easy. Still plain old ass Paul and lady Jessica have not chckchkchhchchchchchhhhkkkkk in their names. |
It is a little jarring the way you're dropped right in, but I like it. Each "chapter" has a little intro by the Princess that gives a little more backstory.
"I'm Paul, but you can just call me Kwisatz Haderach if you prefer. This is my guard Thufir Uhhkubdjbs, my mentor Yg dbcby, and here's my mom, Jess."
I assume your first time reading it? You plan on reading further into the series? My plan is for the 6 main books. |

I read the first book and was completely bored with all two of the others that I read |

Probably not in a row. I have a list a mile long. |
I finished the first part of the book. If that's where the movie ended, people are probably pissed. They can't be used to having to wait for things anymore. |
It will be interesting to see what part Zendaya plays. I'm guessing that they made a minor fremen male character into a female character |
book was great. very heavy in lore. |
I read it back in the 1980s. In the context of science fiction at the time, it wasn't really that far out there, sort of a cross between Heinlein and Bradbury with Tolkien poking around the wings. Great book, although later books in the series ran long and less interesting. |
