tywtch is a metal/hardcore band? i was always under the impression they were numetal/rapmetal. was i wrong in this assumption?

Diecast's first ep was awesome.

toggletoggle post by Jellyfish at Jul 29,2004 1:59am
diecast is cool, but the rest are horrible.

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Jul 29,2004 9:46am
Do those bands have any fans who are out of high school?

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Jul 29,2004 10:05am
you aren't wrong. twytch was nu-metal, but now that the trend is almost dead and metalcore and real metal are taking some of the spotlight, they jumped onto the bandwagon. be prepared for a lot of nu metal bands to do the same thing. i call it "the devildriver effect." hopefully people will see past it and know who the fakes are. unfortunately, the idiots who make up the majority of the music consuming public will probably attach themselves to the poser bands.

toggletoggle post by hey at Jul 29,2004 6:22pm
yeah! i knew i wasnt wrong. i just read on lambgoat that they just got signed to lifeforce. pretty good label if you ask me. where can i hear thier stuff under "twytch"? does anyone know?

"the devildriver effect" is an excellent phrase.

i think i heard that twytch has ex members in some other band that i was recommended. anyone know the name? i meant to check them out but i cant remember what thier name was.

cheech: cheech brings me back to the hardcore from the late 80's. drinking beer and having fun, that's what it's like. they remind me a lot of sheer terror or slapshot. it's hilarious watching the drunken fans hitting their heads against things.

hell within: (formally the band twytch if you haven't heard that enough). of course everything was still labeled "twytch", but how did they sound? the sound was exactly the same... well, i think the drums here bumped up and more double bass... that was at least for the first few songs. that mix of hardcore and nu-metal... nu-hardcore? then, right before the 1/2 way mark in the set list, metal riffs and some melodic metal parts came out, but the singing was still the same. they were definitly easing the people into new stuff cause the next song dropped further and was completely a "lifeforce" sounding track, sounding completely melodic. A few songs after that they went the same way... then old ones, the trauma concept singer made a cameo. they cut a song and went straight into a slayer cover.

manifest: or "manfest" as the singer said... ahaha... the first 2 songs weren't bad... short, hard, faste. after that though, they went into the toolesque, groove-centred hardcore that I'm just not down with. I think the crowd definitly liked the songs that I didn't and they didn't like the songs that I thught were decent. At one point, there was even a melodic part! it was in one of their newer songs. Something that I find with a lot of shows here is that 95% of the people that come are coming for a "local hero" band and they leave before the headliner. they mentioned the ATR/BOE show coming up in Oct at that some club.. I think BOE should play RIGHT before manifest so they get a larger crowd.

at this point, I wanted around the town and saw hookers pissing in an alley and then I pissed in a puke covered bathroom... mmm.. corn...

diecast: breeding ground was in full effect on this one. at one point, I got way too up close and personal and one of the guitarist caught my 12-24 lens with his guitar head.. oopies.. that'll teach me. their new songs sound good, though nothing has stuck in my head yet. they played all their songs and then got begged back on stage to play another track.. it was a new one from the new sampler.

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Aug 28,2004 2:12pm
I personally thought Cheech was fun, but nothing special at all. Hell Within played a pretty good set, but the energy level was lacking a little bit. A good portion of the fans were their to see Manifest and they gave the fans exactly what they wanted. They played with a lot of energy and tore things up. Diecast was nothing short of amazing. Their new stuff sounded real good and they had a lot of energy. The new stuff is cool, but like the rev said nothing really sticks in my head. (Except maybe the part in Fire Damage when he actually says the words Fire Damage) hahaha... All in all I thought it was a pretty good show with a real good crowd...

toggletoggle post by rythmicillusion  at Aug 28,2004 3:27pm
Thanks for taking pictures Rev, they look killer as usual.

I thought the show went pretty well last night...everyone was having a good time, some good pits, no real trouble at all. And after all these years of listening to them, i got to see Diecast live and meet all the guys. They are some cool cats, and their set was rediculous.

I'm kinda(really) partial, but I thought Manifest did a good job at their first show back after a 9 month hiatus. Lots of the locals did come out to support them, but i saw lots of new faces enjoying them, which is always cool.

At the end of the show, their was this fat chick outside the club sitting in a chair, passed out. She fell over onto the ground and her bladder released, soaking her pants. Gotta love Lowell

Thanks to all that came out, it was a really good time!

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 28,2004 8:51pm

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Aug 31,2004 12:39am
CHEECH kicks ass...at a metal show they still tore it up. they get a better response in a more Hardcore audience, but they play fast and heavy and have a lot of fun...sucks the crowd was too serious to join in on the party!!!

Dreadkill...this is Matt singer of Hell Within. I think your comments hold no merit. Where the fuck do you get nu-metal? We play songs at fucking 220! That's nu-metal? Go to hellwithin.com. Download "swallow the stitches". I am absolutly calling you out. You clearly have something against us and that's fine. Our new record will be amazing. You clearly have no concept of music. If guitar harmonies everywhere, fast double bass, shred solos and screaming is nu-metal than I am lost. You are calling out our crediblity and to that I take extreme offense. I have thick skin, but your comments are complete bullshit. Who has a record deal? What the fuck have you done? I can't wait until you hear this album, my friend. You say general comments but do not have one specific thing to say. Until you have a viable argument your opinion means nothing.

http://www.hellwithin.com/Twytch%20-%20Swallow%20the%20Stitches.mp3

there's the mp3, I'm listening to it now. not that you asked me too, but on this mp3, the clean vocals sound more like metal vocals (slightly flanged). the other vocals sound more like beyond the embrace. some of the guitars still sound new metally, like the break down in the first 1/3.
I think the clean vocals sound very nu-metal live, jmho.
I can only go on what I heard live... your old stuff (of which you played) was very nu-metal too. again, jmho. I went to look for my review of the show that I saw you as under the name twytch, but I guess I didn't write a review back then.

I don't care what anyone says...yup, opinions are each their own. I went cuz I'm good friends with the Cheech and Hell Within boys & have been goin to Diecast shows since I can remember. Lowell hasn't seen anything like Hell Within in how long? Good to see great friends doin what they love and have slit their wrists to create/form. Ya may not like them, ya might like them or have no opinion at all. That's the beauty of a msgboard, you can talk shit, give compliments and shoutouts and not get your nose broken...until the next show that is. Cheech, what the hell can I say? Those guys are some of the coolest, most down to earth guys in Boston. They will always be friends for life and nothing can break that bond!

That's it...I'm out. chicken parm is waiting and I need another guinness.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Sep 1,2004 5:47pm edited Sep 1,2004 5:50pm
wow, i can't believe what my comments have caused. hey hell within guys, someone asked if twytch was nu metal. i knew the answer to the question, so i responded. twytch was nu metal. you can't deny it. there's evidence recorded and released to the public. all i did was state a fact. assuck, the reverend, and blue all backed up that statement. you claim to have thick skin, yet you cry about the comments made and threaten to kick people's asses. calling me out? someone's been watching too much wwe smackdown lately. either that, or nu-metal's rap culture roots are showing up and trying to recreate the east coast/west coast rap wars on a metal messageboard. it's immature to threaten violence on people over a band. it's only music. i know there are people who don't like my band and i don't give a shit. if i tried to fight them all, i'd surely get my ass kicked and you would too. i just ignore it and continue making the music i want to make. i'd advise everyone to do the same.

over the past year or so i have been getting annoyed that the posers are getting closer to the music i listen to, but it is nothing i can control and ultimately, it gets bands i love, like opeth and mastodon, more fans and more money so they can quit their crappy jobs and enjoy making music with less personal sacrifice. recently, some life and death things have happened to me and it made me realize that music is just music. i have way more important concerns and hope i can do more important things in this world than make music. that's all i feel like saying right now.

so threaten people if you still want to. i really don't care. it'll just make you look like assholes.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Sep 1,2004 5:52pm

i thought selling out was when you watered down your music for the masses..not become more aggressive,,and if a label signs you, it is based on what you have already done...so that means Twytch earned their contract with everything they wrote in the past, and are now writing new shit to surpass their earlier releases, which every band should do. Don't be haters just cuz they got a break. You should pay congrats, cuz thats what every band in this scene wants eventually. Hating on them is just being a jealous pussy. they are a good band, and every band evolves while they get older. BUt to call em sellouts whent hey play more aggressively, limiting their fan base from the wider Nu-metal audience is so fucking ignorant, it hurts me.

i've never heard your band, but to go from nu-metal to metalcore right now is pretty much selling out because metalcore is starting to be 'in'. all the kids at hot topic who used to wear slipknot and mudvayne shirts are soon to be (or are already) wearing unearth, shadows fall and lamb of god shirts.

if people don't like your band, you must brutally beat them from behind, with as many of your friends as you can find, because that would be soooooooo hardcore. and metal kids play dungeons and dragons and hold candle light vigils and are all pussies. that is what i have taken from this thread. toggletoggle post by ArrowHead  at Sep 4,2004 4:00pm edited Sep 4,2004 4:13pm
What I don't understand is, what's wrong with musicians getting into new music as they get older? I've bought cd's that are ten years old that are pretty new to me. Why is this always called "selling out"? A deal with Lifeforce is "selling out"? These guys collectively would be worth ten times more working as managers at burger king. They obviously must love the music they play, so why be so harsh? They play it well, they're not sloppy, it's just not your style of music.

I had to edit this. So I can add something. My last band was nu-metal. Before that, I spent 5 years playing strictly acoustic folk and jazz with heavy influences. I've been in a poison cover band. I played in an alternative band in the early 90's. Now I sing for Pillory. Does that make me a sellout? My first band was a hardcore band in the early 90's with nick from Bane and Tom and Ryan from Tommy and the Terrors. I've been into the metal and hardcore scene longer than most of you have even been aware of it. I played shows with Sam Black Church, Slapshot, Tree, all before I was even old enough to drive. (1992).

People like me aren't sell-outs, people like you are just narrow minded.

toggletoggle post by ASSUCK   at Sep 4,2004 4:16pm
no, people like YOU arent sellouts. you didnt change to fit the style of "in" music as badly as they did. as soon as the nu metal train derailed, twytch jumped off and and onto the next train, which is metalcore. i like trains.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHead  at Sep 4,2004 4:20pm
No they DIDN'T

I've been talking to Matt a long time about brutal hardcore and metal bands. He's not jumping on ANY bandwagons, he's just moving onto another set of influences. How is that selling out? Compare the first album to thier second, thier style has always been getting heavier and more intricate.

toggletoggle post by Give me a break at Sep 4,2004 4:28pm
This is the excuse all sellouts give. "we've alway's progressed with every album this is just a natural progression". Give me a break you mean to tell me that if metalcore was not popular they still would be playing this style of music. If you think that your just fooling yourself.

toggletoggle post by ASSUCK   at Sep 4,2004 4:28pm
i wouldnt call what they do intricate by any means.

which was their first? the self titled? cause that was grade-a nu metal. no bones about it. to deny the fact they were nu metal is just futile. i almost wish i hadnt thrown that cd i found back into the trash so i could have the ultimate proof to myself that i'm not imagining the fact that they were nu metal. but it made such a strong enough impression on me that when i first listened to it, i threw it away again, which is enough proof for myself that what i heard was, in fact, nu metal.

toggletoggle post by Give me a break at Sep 4,2004 5:01pm
The devildriver effect is a total slap in the face to anyone who made heavy music in the mid to late nineties when playing anything heavy was not cool. Just because you discovered In Flames, Meshuggah and lamb of god last year doesn't mean they weren't around when you were talking about how phat the new deftones album was.

toggletoggle post by Still a fan at Sep 4,2004 7:44pm
I've been following them for like 5 years. They had alot of line up changes but always had guitar solos and brutal drums, to me they're as metal as they come. They've played shows with Sworn Enemy, 100 demons, Cannae, Diecast, Dying Fetus, Tree, Scissorfight to name a few. I remember seeing them get thrown out of Club Fuel by cops for starting a riot there like 4 years ago.

Strangely enough, my new band played with Hell Within at a Leukemia benefit this April. I talked to a couple of em briefly, they seemed like nice dudes. I guess it was their ex-singer who did all the above threatening, etc. The guys I talked to didn't seem to give a damn one way or the other.

Strange how these paths cross. I never told you guys I smoked weed with the girl from Wretched Asylum last year...y'know, the one we all made horrible rape jokes about. She was really cool as well.
