I'm back from day 1. Working on the pictures and review...
give me like 30 minutes or so... er.. make it an hour.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 1,2003 3:47am
pictures are up: http://www.returntothepit.com/concert.php?date=2003-02-28&did=883 I messed something up so I'm still trying to fix it...

unfortunately, most people who said they were going to go, didn't. the turn out was less-than-excellent. Well, if there are no more shows in the area, blame yourself if you didn't go. Hopefully, the turn out is better tomorrow.

random acts: think old school trash punk
days gone by: I liked their last two songs the best, especially the last song, more complete, bunch of change-ups.
Hirudinea: so much better this time. They played a form of screamy, semi-black metal.
Ascendancy: they always tear it up. This day they had the whole band.
Darken the Sky: "oh yeah!", Nashua nh represent. I picked up their demo, but the song I liked the most, they are about to record.
the Fourth Ward: from detriot and they played a minor threat cover!
Bodies in the Gears of the Apparatus: simply amazing. tehy couldn't believe that people were into them. I guess they don't know about all the mp3 plays theyve gotten. They are one of the most spoken about bands in mass right now.
Methal Orange: screaming metalcore. I couldn't really hear the clean singing.
The Accursed: the rockstars should have been on the floor so they could do more guitar line ups. I was hoping that someone would remember the bicardi.. but they didn't so no fire.
Kevorkian's Angels: very weird.. metal riffs.. screaming... and then they started an almost surf style of drumming
Acacia Strain: besides the singers being horribly sick and dying, the set was amazingly tight as usual. Unfortunately, they did not have their 3rd guitar player there.
Watchmaker: bullet belts and black metal. that's all you need. I love that guys mic too.

dude, do not affiliate nashua with darken the sky. the fact that the played somewhere other than drifters is to be commended, but dont group them in with awesome hardcore bands like Since The Flood and uh... yeah, them, who do nashua proud.

sorry... one of my mirrors wasn't updated correctly.

as I said, I liked the last song the best and I'm looking forward to having then in the studios and hearing the new recording.
and all my family's from nashua. most still live there, I escaped.

Thanks to anyone that showed up. Overall it was a good time. Mark gets a HEIL for putting this thing together and putting up with all the bs. Thanks to Mark especially. When we (Hirudinea) were playing, I couldn't hear a thing. It was a wall of black noisey echo. The sound was terrible, and we should have played a different song for our last one, but we already started the song that we played when we were being told to stop. Thanks to everyone that watched. Ascendancy was cool, The Accursed was cool, Kevorkians Angels were awesome, so was Watchmaker. Kevorkians Angels were a big surprise and they are now playing the April 18 show in Haverhill. So come out and destroy your life for szatan. Hirudinea (black/grind), Gorehammer (real death metal), Kevorkians Angels (thrash), Adolf Satan (sludge), and Watchmaker (noise thrash) at Club Exit 23 Haverhill, MA. 666

thanks to Bodies in the Gears of the Apparatus for kicking ass. We (kevorkian's angels) had a great time. We could have played better, but beer tastes so damn good. See you at Bill's Bar March 10th with Watchmaker you muthafuckras.

Its awesome that you set up a fest and all, but did you really expect a ton of kids to go that first day. sure there was some great bands playing, but you didnt have many big names. My suggestion to ou for the next time you book a fest include some big names. But im sure the turnout for the second day is going to be far greater. Good luck in future efforts and keep it brutal

second day and still not that great of a turn out. I expected a few more people.
janie paralysis: walked in, snapped two pictures and then were done.

as long as were all living...were all dying: thrashy+blackish

vengeance is mine: couldn't really hear the vocals. need to check out the cd.

swear to god: weird, the singer used to be the drummer. the other singer sounded a bit more tough guy. I like it better now.

deadwater drowning: this guys are crazy. I like bands that break mic stands. Their demo still isn't done. to bad, people were lookign for it too.

since the flood: note, the singer kept his shirt on. These guys are so good. each time I see them, they are tighter.

envelope: sounding just like their cd, envelope brought an awesome set.

knife fight romance: dwd's bass player is now playing for them. also, they have the old chagrin drummer playing for them.

back of tha neck: love 'em or hate 'em, they put on a great show. I believe I saw their first show and their sound is just getting fuller and more badass. I'm glad there was no bleeding during their set. (see ucw for that)

in dire need: there wasn't as much movement for a normal idn show. I figured at least someone would get hit with a bass. Their badass ode to satan, our eternal lord and master, slays. some day, I'll have their cd.. some day.

the 9 orders of angels: wow, I had no idea what to expect. these guys were pretty heavy. I was expecting something totally different. they also stuck around for almost all of the show, dancing for all the other acts.

veritas: deathmetalcore.

upon crimson wings: "that's a lot of blood!". yes it was. mr maggot bleed all over the place and all over the face of mr ogre. I would HATE to have to use that mic. It got ruined.

nientara: Did they just finish a CD? I don't know cause I haven't gotten it yet. They were wicked tight. and that scream the singer's got. reminds me of zao.

it dies today: Ok, I totally forgot what these guys were like live. Though, this performance was a million times better than last time. the crowd went nuts... there was even some chair dancing (which you can see in the corner of three of the pictures.
chair http://pics.returntothepit.com/media.php?id=27942
no chair http://pics.returntothepit.com/media.php?id=27943
guy that chair getting up to fight http://pics.returntothepit.com/media.php?id=27944
deadeyesunder:

umbrella: grind grind grind. I was listening while taking pictures and I totally knew a track. they realized that I listend to the mp3 a lot. I can't wait for them to re-schedule on rttp

beyond the embrace: musically skilled masters of mass. they rock. It's too bad there are not-too many people out went I go to see them.

the mic is in a sandwhich baggy, it looks like evidence from a serial mass murder, totally covered in blood, i love it!

i have to agree with the guy who said that the booking wasnt the best booking. I bet their would have been some bigger bands who would have played if asked. Also, I hadnt even heard of half of the bands. But Since The Flood played... so therefore it was an awesome show no matter what.

exhumed i know you think you know everything about shows. Usually the point of the show is to get people to come see new acts, today people suck and they dont want to drive LONG distances to see a bunch of bands they havent heard of , there for when you book a show you get a least one decent headliner number one so you can at the very least get your money back that you spent on booking a hall that is very expensive, number 2 hopefully kids will see the other acts playing there for people will come back to see them. Like I said its fucking cool that he booked the show and I give him shitloads of credit for throwning this show on, But why didnt you ask a group like The Red Chord to come play, last show i booked the place was packed when i had them come, and they charge a price that wasnt to bad. We'll better luck to you next time man

To sum up the Bitter End Fest:

1. Ashley=rad, rad lady (nice bum too)
2. I hate fashioncore kids.
3. People that cover bathroom with fire extinguisher should hurry up and die
4. Dave Maggot is my hero
5. If I ever see that slophole that was stamping her feet and making an ass out of herself on day one again, I'm going to stab her eyes out.

All in all, Bitter End fest lived up to its name and it was cool to see whats out there in the local scene. For everyone that drove a painfully long time to show their support... you rock. For the assholes hitting girls, fucking with fire extinguishers, throwing chairs and otherwise making sure we wont be able to do this next year....

"hitting girlshitting girls hitting girls" it's starting to sound like a fucking jingle. and much like a jingle.

how come my girlfriend can hold her own at a show...how come my girlfriend can laugh off getting hit at a show...how come every girl i know and respect can deal with taking an occasional hit at a show...how come every girl i know and respect would never dream of going on the internet and making a case out of taking a hit from someone dancing? maybe i'm just stupid but these questions just come up when i hear these things. maybe i'm just not with it. or maybe it's just that i've seen enough shows to know not to care anymore, yup sounds about right.

i wasn't even there so im not gonna bother commenting on any crybabies trying to fight my friends which im sure was hilarious.

exhumed4death if you think thats the point then you've obviously missed the point. go back to sleep.

Im pretty sure mark tried to get the red chord, but they're currently on tour..

toggletoggle post by mark fucking richards at Mar 3,2003 12:20am
i'd like to thank everyone that showed support for the show, payed the money and stuck around.

as for the headliner situations: i had kse, unearth, shadows fall and cannae all wanting to play, just confirmed, and then all dropped due to previously booked shows. i asked the red chord, and they weren't around. i asked until the end, never got back. i tried burnt by the sun, mastodon, etc etc and no one was taking it. better luck next time indeed.

i did make all but a few bucks back; i thought i was like 700 bucks in the hole and wanted to rob the dunkin donuts or something, but then i realized i only lost like 50 to 75 bucks. most of the money went to gas money for out of state bands. so i'd say even if i didn't make profit this fest was a success, all because it happened, people had a good fuckin time for the most part, and it actually went a shitload smoother than i expected.

done.

toggletoggle post by DeathMetalPriestess   at Mar 3,2003 1:33am edited Mar 3,2003 2:19am
To clear things up...girls getting hit doesnt really bother me, I hate girls and the ones I saw get hit this weekend deserved it. Also the ones I saw get hit were in the pit, and cried about it, and I laughed at them because they had it coming. They shouldn't stand there if they can't take it, and I never said otherwise. If I got hit standing around a pit (and I have) I wouldn't give a shit. I'm just saying the more trouble caused, the less a chance of there being a Bitter End fest next year.

And please, hit me at a show chair guy, because it will be the last thing you do on two legs. Nice Bruins Jersey. And the balcony was closed, Mark didnt pay for it, so no one could go up there. I wasn't actually referring to your chair throwing, but to the one the day before that almost went through my buddies drums, which was a bit uncalled for. Mark busted his ass to put this show together and he gets thanked by people whipping chairs around...nice!

all in all it was great, yet the whole jumping around was a bit excessive and it was a lot more relaxed near the end of the night when the last couple of bands played.

I seriously appreciate the efforts it takes to book such a fest...but if you wanna drag some people down here man you have to promote your show! We didn't get any flyers for the show in Providence. I mean do you think that there's no metalheads/grind/hardcore kids in town or what? We saw some flyers in Boston when we went to flyer for the Pungent Stench and Nile shows. I mean we have a record store, tons of people come here to buy metal If you cannot come down in town, send some flyers! That's what we do for CT most of the time. You cannot really count on bands to flyer for their shows either. I would have send an update for that show if I had any infos. And I don't want to hear anything about "flyers are useless" cause that's bullshit! Maybe less bands would be good as well. It's a long day, and that's why we didn't show up on Saturday cause we got burned Friday basically..(well, next time we know better just to come the second day but we wanted to the The Accursed and Ascendency).

toggletoggle post by armageddonday   at Mar 4,2003 2:58pm
Also that kickboxing shit is just meaning less, to me this is just an opportunity for a bunch of insecure male to show people (that don't give a shit anyway) how tough they are. This is not respect for other people, for the people who book the show, and for the bands because how can you check out a band when you have to watch for some assholes kickboxing into the crowd. Sorry but I'm from the fucking headbanging/stage diving school, a pit is good. BUT NO KICKBOXING. You guys suck (I havent seen a girl doing that yet so I assume that's a male thing)..

i had actually given a ton of flyers to a few kids in RI that said they put em all over the place. probably about 150, and ascendancy spread them around for the pungent stench show. if i had the time to go into RI, i would have flyered myself. i am satisfied with the show overall though.

hey, good for you. whats your point?

"a pit is good. BUT NO KICKBOXING"
who elected you president of the scene? who do you think you are, elvis? sorry but the decrees of random internet metal guys don't really hold much ground authority wise.

"DUDE YOU HIT ME WITH YOUR FUCKING CHAIR AND YOU BETTER FUCKING RUN CAUSE I'M COMING AFTER YOU DON'T WORRY.. "
Nope. You're not going anywhere. Certainly not after bill. You're not gonna do anything. And if you do, it won't end well for you. You'll lose, bigtime. Don't make me get into this cuz I've got nazis to argue with and fight so i really don't need another week long internet arguement with some guy i don't even know.

"Go do that at the Palladium or Lupos, you'll get some response from it.. "
I goto the palldium and lupos all the time and kick everybody. I was at lupos 2 weeks ago spinkicking everything in sight. So so much for that statment.

"You guys suck (I havent seen a girl doing that yet so I assume that's a male thing).. "
Well that just goes to show that you really don't know anything about it at all, and you probably shouldn't be talking about it. I see girls dance all the time, some of them dance harder then most guys.

i dont like to step in on this stuff too much because everyone gets all hot and bothered...i'd just like to say that armaggedon day was NOT at the show on saturday. bill arruda was NOT at the show on friday...armageddon day is speaking out to another kid by the name of john denn who was throwing chairs during bodies in the gears of the apparatus on Friday. so you two never crossed paths at all, just so there is no further confusion.

let's just put all this fucking bull shit behind us, it is not going to stop anything. nothing is going to improve with all of this fucking bitching, on everyone's part. i'm not directing this to ANY individual, i am directing it to every single person who has ever bitched about this stuff on the internet. i admit i've done it, and technically i'm doing it right now, but there is no point to it. everyone has their own opinions on everything. i don't exactly agree with throwing chairs and i don't dance, but hey, what can ya do. threats of any sort serve no purpose. everyone has their own deal, let's just leave it all be.

i don't want to be a fucking peacemaker or a mediator or anything, but i hate seeing people that i am friends with on both sides arguing. so if any of this happens again, talk to the offender or whatever the fuck you want to call him/her at the time that it happens, and i'm sure things can get worked out. i've seen things work out before and it actually pays off sometimes, it prevents bullshit like this from happening.

this is my take on the whole thing, i am ranting. blah blah blah, you all can continue to argue all you want, but this is just my 2 cents. so can't we all just get along? leave shit in the past. fucking slayer.
