It's too bad that Ozzfest is helping to push metalcore into the mainstream by letting them open up for such popular METAL bands as Judas Priest, Slayer and Superjoint Ritual.

After having to see bands like unearth and lamb of god live I realized how truly horrid metalcore is. Those spots could have easily been given to metal bands, Nile, Napalm Death, etc. They could have atleast done a mix of styles, instead of all metalcore with Hatebreed and Throwdown tossed into the mix.

Kids who just want to hear heavy music will get force fed that bullshit like they did slipknot and disturbed over the past 3 years, I hope Priest gained alot of new younger fans yesterday because if Halford handles the booking of Priest tours, then real metal will get a fair shake from him, because of obviously it won't from Sharon Osbourne.

ya i didnt even go, though priest kicks ass, i felt i would get more metal seeing anchorman.

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Jul 13,2004 10:44am
The fest was like a test, if you can get past seeing the worst bands on the planet, then you get to see Priest as your prize.

toggletoggle post by Iren_the_Viking   at Jul 13,2004 10:46am
and a good prize at that, but im not man enough to sit through such shit

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Jul 13,2004 10:47am
You could hang hung with me, I just wandered around by myself for most the day, treating people like garbage.
I'm such a terrible person.

metal core is the new mall metal. it is a fad just like pop punk and the indie rock revolution. all the marilyn manson kids tunrned into korn and slipknot kids and they are all turning into scenesters. big deal i have seen this happen way too many times.disco, new wave, punk, goth, glam, hair bands, grunge, nu metal and now metal core. and next year it will be someting else. fuck trendy bullshit. not to mention it is the young hip mindless crowd that follows trends so who gives a fuck.

keep booking real metal shows till the cows come home and it wont change a thing cause when the next big MTV trend comes along this shit will not be mainstream anymore and who knows it might be death metals turn in the spotlight next.

toggletoggle post by Iren_the_Viking   at Jul 13,2004 10:50am
ya but didnt it cost like, uhhhh money? because if it did, there was no way in hell i could go if i wanted to

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Jul 13,2004 10:52am
My point is, if heavy music is going to be popular, they shouldn't use Judas Priest and Slayer to help make metalcore that next trend when bands equally as big right now who are metal could have got those spots.

toggletoggle post by Iren_the_Viking   at Jul 13,2004 10:53am
all i wanna do is spread talk of zombies to the masses, is that too much to ask? but i dont know if i would want to be that popular, i mean money is cool i guess but jeez i couldnt deal with the fact that little cocksucking trend assholes would be worshipping me because it's "cool"

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Jul 13,2004 11:13am
the lineup is still better than previous ozzfests. ya gotta admit that at least.

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Jul 14,2004 11:52am
Only because of the main stage acts, i am not going to compromise my attitude and say 'atleast they weren't all nu-metal bands'.
There is no reason they couldn't have added atleast one metal band to the second stage. Jack Osbourne needs to die.

you sadly speak the painful truth my son

what the hell is metacore? It has to be gay because it has the word "core" at the end of it but im a bit foggy as to what might be described as metalcore. I really have no idea who these bands are that were mentioned. I do my best to avoid hearing most of the new bands so I dont accidentally copy anyones music when im writing for my band.

toggletoggle post by silky  at Jul 14,2004 2:25pm
metalcore is one long open-note chug fest with idiots in their girlfreind's pants posing and doing spin kicks.

toggletoggle post by heimdall  at Jul 14,2004 2:39pm
well techniclly a very reliable website labels killswitch as metalcore...but I like alot of thier music which is rare

toggletoggle post by Christraper at Jul 14,2004 2:47pm
how unfortunate....

toggletoggle post by Soloman   at Jul 14,2004 2:51pm
When was Ozzfest ever about showcasing brutal music anyway? Its always been about uniting trendy "heavy" bands with fat washed up metal dorks. What a great money making machine: Get the old dudes that will pay to see (Priest, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Slayer, etc) no matter who they play with, and then also get the highschoolers by opening the show with trendy bands (the bands ya'll hate). Now if I assume that we don't fit in either of those groups, what are we left to do? Get over it.

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Jul 14,2004 2:54pm
I didn't say anything about brutal music, some people could easily claim hatebreed is brutal and they would probably be right.
I'd really like to see King Diamond or Motorhead on the ozzfest, do you consider those bands brutal?
I am talking about metal in general, I guess I am just a fat washed up metal dork because I went for Judas Priest and Slayer.
I am just saying, and I think alot of the people I know who I saw there would agree with me, that it would have been nice if they had some more metal bands on the bill.

toggletoggle post by swamplorddvm  at Jul 14,2004 3:17pm
I'm just glad I can still say I have NEVER seen slipknot live.

toggletoggle post by Soloman   at Jul 14,2004 3:21pm
Yeah i know what youre sayin. I am a Priest fan myself. If youre a fat metal dork, stand up tall with pride. Throw your belly around and headbang. My point is that i dont think "metalcore" is being forced down anyone's throat. Its just what the youngins are buying, and its pretty understood that Ozzfest opens it's show with the current trend, and then headlines it with older established acts.

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Jul 14,2004 3:31pm
i spoke to a couple of slipknot people as they walked around sans makeup...but did not see them either

i hope everyone looked at my pics..that includes you joe

superjoint and throwdown were the worst bands ont he bill. I would have loved to see priest, but $ and rides are very scarce to me.

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Jul 14,2004 3:56pm
i think the worst bands were magna fi, throwdown, hatebreed and slipknot.
Superjoint Ritual was a nice change after all the shit from the second stage, not that I am a fan really, it was just better then metalcore.

i dont even think about slipknot, but whose magna fi?

This is why there are death fests..... for those of us that are not big on what ozfest have to offer.... Slayer was terrible. They fucked up at dawn they sleep and chemical war fare. I was like 12th row and it was funny to see all of them turn around to lombardo to see where they where in the songs! Not small fuck ups....big fuck ups!

toggletoggle post by JellyFish at Jul 14,2004 5:46pm
Thats lame. At Dawn is one of my favorites.

it's very simple. big concert promoters are only going to book big bands. who's bigger, Lamb of God, or Nile? and it's that fucking simple

toggletoggle post by JoeDavolla  at Jul 14,2004 7:29pm
Lombardo fucked up on the drum fill during War Ensemble.Thats the only mistake I heard Slayer make.No band is perfect, give the guys a break. And whoever said Slayer sucked that night is a retard!!!

exactly. Its ozzfest anyways, the biggest promoter in the world of rock music so its not like they really care about the most brutal and most deserving or even most talented band. Hoping for that is like hoping for mastamindz to be good: NEVER GONNA HAPPEN.

please, that was the worst slayer set i have ever witnessed. youre very much in denial if you dont agree. i really dont care how many times youve seen them at the rat, either.

toggletoggle post by silky  at Jul 15,2004 12:16am
I'm glad I didn't see them fuck up "at dawn they sleep". I don't think I could look at them the same way ever again. and I'm glad I didn't put any of my hard earned money into hatebreed or slipknot's or sharon osbourne's pocket.

King Diamond or Lamb of God?
Nile is bigger then alot of the other second stage bands though, who the hell actually likes throwdown or magna fi?
And why didn't WAAF put Mike Hsu in charge of running which local bands would be able to get voted onto the ozzfest?

I notice that even though Nile is bigger than a lot of bands adn they sell lots of albums, a lot of people leave for their set at their shows. And throwdown always seems to get huge turnout at all their shows in this area. Plus, Nile toured for like 2 and a half years for the last album and is working on a new one where throwdown can take off a weekend, throw together a crappy cd and have tons of free time to play ozzfests and ne metal fests and such.

I don't understand. You speak of these trends such as disco, new wave, punk, etc. as if they are bullshit simply because they are trends, yet you say that "it might be deat metals turn in the spotlight next" as if it's a good thing? Again, I don't understand. How can you discount certain genres because they are trends, but at the same time ponder curiously and unominously about the possibility of death metal becoming the next trend, as if this doesn't bother you? I'm not attacking your comments, I'm just wondering whether you think trends are bad, or you think disco, new wave, punk, goth, glam, hair bands, grunge, new metal, and metalcore are all bad. It seems like it must be one or the other.

toggletoggle post by Josh_hates_you  at Jul 16,2004 2:18am
i think trends are retarded. each of these genres has lived outside of their trendy period except disco. all these genres are still around today in one form or another. they are just not the hip thing or trend of the time. even raves and dj bobtasic where everywhere for 2 years.

i am not attacking the genres of music for becoming successful for short periods of time. i am attacking the simple minded people who jump from trend to trend. there are people who where on the front of the metal core trend before it got big and will do so after it is gone like the true artists of all genres. all the clones will either fade away or keep up with the times. in this regard very few bands these days are "keeping it real"

as far as death metals turn next i meant......... if you have been into underground metal for 10 years and then next week it is on trl are you going to turn your back on it or wait for the trend to pass and take the fuckers with it while you stay true. cant let what someone else likes or doesnt like deter or encourage what oneself likes or not.

toggletoggle post by retzam at Jul 16,2004 2:24am
rock on!

Yeah, I misread you I think. I thought you were saying that trends are gay unless dm became a trend which would be nice, so I was a tad confused. My apologies.

i bet next year p diddy will play ozzfest....

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Jul 16,2004 9:23am
my guess is they will try to get Iron Maiden next year.

toggletoggle post by retzam at Jul 16,2004 3:41pm
That would be incredible.

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Jul 16,2004 9:11pm
Yeah I didnt read all stuff above but in my opinion, although main stage had a good line up this year, who would wanna see any of those bands at the tweeter center? Everything about it sucks except when they used to have 2nd stage in the area with all the trees to climb and jump off of. Noe 2nd stage is in the parking lot, sound on both stages always sucked, always will, everything is rushed because theyre on a "schedual" and whatever other multi million dollar bullshit.

toggletoggle post by retzam at Jul 16,2004 11:56pm
I like the Tweeter Center. I like any outdoor venue really, just a good feel.

toggletoggle post by CandyStriperDeathOrgy  at Jul 19,2004 2:33am
Here are some bands that ought to be on the OZZFEST next year : NAPALM DEATH, CANNIBAL CORPSE, OVER KILL, NUCLEAR ASSAULT, TESTAMENT, SODOM, DESTRUCTION, CARNIVORE, D.R.I., WARGASM, EXCITER, TERROR 2000, IMMOLATION...... We'd love to do it too. But, anybody who plays on the 2nd stage has to pay to play. It's something $75,000 for the whole fest......... Wow!!!!! My guys at Screaming Ferret Wreckords looked into it..........

toggletoggle post by Kalopsia   at Jul 19,2004 7:33am
there's only one problem with that line up, the crowd wouldn't be as big as the crowd is for the current ozzfest line-up. as i said earlier in the thread, it's not about who's better, it's who will make the promoters more $$$. and like it or not, but Lamb of God is bigger than Immolation, hence Lamb of God will be booked for the show. don't like it? then book your own metal festival and get those bands to play
