Today, RevolverMag.com is premiering a new song from Grandfather called “Not A Pawn.” The track appears on the quartet’s new album, In Human Form, which is set to be released on August 13.
For In Human Form, Grandfather recorded with producer/musician Alex Newport (The Mars Volta, The Melvins, Fudge Tunnel). Determined to preserve humanity in music during an increasingly digitalized time (a theme that extends to the album’s lyrics and title), the band worked extremely close with Newport at The Magic Shop studios. “A lot of bands will record and the producer will edit a bad performance in post,” shares guitarist Michael Kirsch. “Alex made sure we got it right at the source, and would drill us until we nailed the song.”
Formed in 2010, Grandfather quickly made a name for themselves with the debut full-length, Why I’d Try, engineered by Steve Albini (Nirvana, The Pixies). The recording sessions even lead Albini himself to named Grandfather a young artist with integrity that inspired him during an interview with GQ magazine. The band will soon be announcing dates for a late summer/early fall Northeast tour. For more info, visit GrandfatherMusic.com. |
