"Captive Bolt Pistol", a brand new song from reactivated British extreme metal pioneers CARCASS, is featured on "Hell Is Here", a sampler from the organizers of Germany's Party.San Metal Open Air festival. The track comes off the band's comeback album, "Surgical Steel"., which is due in the fall via Nuclear Blast Records.

Nuclear Blast has been taking it down, so the link might be dead by the time you read this. The long story short is that Heartwork era fans should be pleased.

I liked the song a lot, more than expected. Carcass is probably my least favorite of the major classic dm bands. But I'll probably get this.

Always found Carcass to be a bit overrated, but this is still quite solid.

toggletoggle post by Bill Queer at Jul 2,2013 4:30am
this is gay and you should feel gay listening to it

Thats probably because you were listening to shitty albums like Heartwork and didn't know any better. This sucks.

LOVING IT!!!! CARCASS IS BACK BABY!!!

toggletoggle post by Happy Hipster at Jul 2,2013 9:20am
Listening again and it's fucking awesome still

toggletoggle post by NewHamshuhBrutality at Jul 2,2013 9:23am
Reek is my favorite album of theirs, so the joke's on you. Even then, however, Ultimo Mondo Cannibale blows it out of the fucking water.

I dont get the comparison?

toggletoggle post by KEVORD  at Jul 2,2013 9:56am
They're both on Metal Archives.

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Jul 2,2013 9:58am
Eh, it's better than Swansong.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Jul 2,2013 10:11am
Heartwork gets no love. I listened to that the other day, I don't see what's wrong with it at all.

Heartwork is okay, but it would have benefited from being released under a different name. I mean, yes, it generally feels like a reasonably logical progression from Necroticism, but there are other times where it feels like the abridged version of Necroticism, with a lot of the more interesting parts trimmed away in favor of more immediacy.

Heartwork is my fourth or fifth favorite Metallica record.

toggletoggle post by The Spewing Voog at Jul 2,2013 2:00pm
Immediately forgettable track. Carcass are back to pick up their $$$ but i dont blame them... :sigh:

toggletoggle post by chrisREX  at Jul 2,2013 2:40pm
Symphonies is my favorite, but Heartwork is up there. Reek and Necroticism is a fine album, but Necroticism especially never really resonated with me like those two. No real reasoning.

Oh, and I don't really remember a single note of Swansong.

hah! fuck that noise, carcass is awesome. this new track is decent, hopefully the rest of the album has some stronger songs on it. you losers have to act like you're too good to like carcass, hahaha.. message board know it alls, hahah.. google up some real obscure shit for us all to ponder why don't you? i bet you fucks can't hum one single riff off of reek of putrefaction. posers!!! leave the fucking hall!

Well-played.

I'd like to hear shit like Reek of Putrefaction and Symphonies of Sickness, but with THESE vocals.

toggletoggle post by Hoser at Jul 5,2013 12:55am
I like this VERY much....will add to my Carcass collection. Still love Heartwork as well.

toggletoggle post by demondave at Jul 11,2013 7:38pm

"Carcass - captive bolt pistol Video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Nuclear Blast Records"

What the fuck is the point of putting the song on a sampler and then freaking out if it is on Youtube?

In addition, I'm not too sure how I feel about regurgitating the Tools of the Trade cover for the new album cover. At least they pulled the old logo back in.

The song is still online, you just need to use google.

I don't know, controversial opinion time, but I really don't like this new Carcass song or the new Gorguts song. I think they're both relatively mediocre and don't know why everyone on the internet is freaking out about how awesome they are.

toggletoggle post by longdeadgod_nli at Jul 13,2013 10:28am
I like it, always been a heartwork fan as well. As far as people getting pumped, carcass is a legendary band, and to people of a certain metal generation them getting back together and putting out something at all is exciting, but having it be half way decent is a major plus.

Say you lived in an area pre internet an your only access to heavy music was word of mouth because you didn't know about zines and trading and what not, you woshipped the hell out of what extreme stuff you did find.

toggletoggle post by Spence at Jul 13,2013 10:49am
Yeah, and i'm a major Carcass fan. I love all the Carcass albums, even most of Swansong.

It's not even bad music by these two bands, I just don't get the hype. They're pretty forgettable and not exactly groundbreaking. I also don't get how bands like Atheist or Autopsy can release killer new music and be massively overlooked, but Carcass releases a new song? 43 FB friends are "talking about Carcass."

It's just odd. And it's not just limited to just death metal. I'm constantly baffled by just HOW 00's Kreator albums are actually MORE popular than their 80's/1990 material.

I'm just more of a prick than you are. I'd always hold my new albums up to Show No Mercy or Altars of Madness and if they didn't even come close, I'd pitch the fuckers and listen to what I liked.

Reek = #3 on my top goregrind albums

Symphonies = Goregrind gets technical, great record

Necroticism = Still sounds like grind, but starts to get a little death metal flavor. It's well put together, but for some reason never stuck with me.

Heartwork = Technical death metal. Memorable and fun, but a bit overproduced.

Swansong = Sounds like there was a collection of "Countdown To Extinction era" Megadeth songs with Walker on vocals (which I - as a big Megadeth fan - enjoyed)

So far, the new stuff sounds like they're trying to fit in with all the band who've been trying to emulate their sound since they split up
