DEATH TRIBUTE--
Matt Bachand (guitars) and Jason Bittner (drums) of SHADOWS FALL recently got together with the legendary James Murphy (Disincarnate) to record their parts for the Within The Mind project, the highly anticipated Death tribute album.

Murphy checks in describing his experience working with Bachand and Bittner,
"A couple weeks ago I traveled to Albany, NY where I was picked up at the airport by Jason Bittner and we headed directly over to Hydrostatic Recording Studios to begin setting up the drums and getting tones for the session. We started recording the drum tracks and rough guitar tracks for 3 Death songs (not telling yet!). That following day Matt Bachand showed up to be on hand to record guitar parts for one of the songs.

The session went very smoothly and it was easy to tell that Jason had been playing the songs for quite a while and when you finally hear his performance on the CD there will no doubt as to why Modern Drummer Magazine recently awarded him the #1 Up And Coming Drummer Award. Matt and Jason both kicked ass on the tracks and once again the high standard set by Richard Christy at the beginning of the project was maintained."

Next up I'll be heading to the NY area again to record for the project with Dave Culross, Brett Hofmann, Ross Dolan, and others. Check the tribute, http://www.deathtribute.com site for pics from the session.

thanks... I will also soon be sending out a personal update and a Disincarnate update.. thanks again!" ~James Murphy

Shadow's Fall playing Death... They don't deserve to... Fuck that band and fuck you...

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 1,2004 3:35pm
I don't really think that SF "deserves" to be on it..
but whatever, this is just 2 members of SF.
Say what you will about that band, but the guitar players and pretty freaking good.

**Shameless self promotion**… James Murphy will be co-producing and mixing the next Command Presence full length album…. The follow up to “The Danger sessions” EP available now.

Shadows fall is gay, I wasnt sticking up for shadows fall hench the "Great" part of my statement.

there was also a Death Tribute CD put out last year by Mondo Canibale Records out of Spain. It had a bunch of bands from around the globe covering tunes. Yeah, shameless plug, but Leukorrhea covered a track on it.

Sorry...I was not refererring to you or rev. I really loathe that band and their rock star attitudes... If their tour bus flipped over and exploded and they all died a horrid slow death I would throw a 10 barrell keg party... I remember seeing their video of them signing autographs and their faggot poses... Teeny bopper pseudo metal...

one of the funniest things I ever saw was evil shawn (big boucer at the palladium) standing behind brian fair (sf singer) screaming like a girl "OMG it's brian fair of shadows fall OMG" since that's what all the little kids do.

Paul, what's wrong with members of shadows fall covering Death? The members of shadows fall are all sick musicians and actually know theory. They have some nasty solos and guitar work. and I'm 100% sure they can pull of shit that niether you or me could ever do with our knowlege of guitar.

If your problems with them is the guitar tone, which seems to be alot of peoples problem. It's fucking hard to capture everything perfectly in recording. Meaning, if the guitar tracks don't sound 100% up to par I and you paid $3,000 recording them you're not going to spend another bunch of money to do it over. A lot of recording has to do with a band finding an engineer that can get what they want and that's hard to do.

Shadows Fall is gay. Metal core's gay.

Since when is Shadows Fall "core" anything? Sounds like metal to me. I hear more old Maiden/Metallica in the riffing than any simplistic hxc riffage. The only problem i've had with SF was their tone on The Art of Mediocrity, very weak. The first two discs are solid, and when you hear the newest, from the song i've heard... you should take back the statement that those two shouldn't be on the tribute. I'd rather see SF on a Death tribute than them getting acts like Slipknot to cover their songs.
