I know there's a few on this forum:

What's your current treatment/medication? How is it working for you?

toggletoggle post by posbleak   at Oct 16,2012 1:24pm
Mine are hormonal/related to my cycle. When I feel the ache setting in, I take some Excedrin Migraine, vape some marijuana, and drink a bottle of sugar-free Gatorade and it will usually help a lot. Nothing helps more than some sleep, though.

I pay attention to the warning signs and when they are coming on, I control them with 800mg advil, caffeine and maybe viccodine if I have it.

Thanks!

I'm actually looking for treatment for full blown attacks. I too use coffee, weed, naps, etc... when I feel one coming on. But once it's ON, none of that is gonna help. It's just time to hug the toilet, turn off the lights, and be glad I don't keep a gun in the house.

By the way, don't feel bad - I actually only get em once or twice a year. I'm inquiring moreso for a friend who has been getting clusters.

if I miss the warning signs (thanks alcohol), sitting in a shower puking and crying always seems to help.

Thanks rev...

As I recall, yours are really bad too - I remember thinking you sounded like my mom when you were talking about it. Hers are the most brutal migraines I've ever witnessed.

When you get a full on attack, do you have meds? Imitrex or such?

lol - I've lived that scene many times. Except I prefer hugging the toilet instead of the shower, as the bowl is nice and cool down near the floor. However, I learned - never flush. It's like thunder inside my head.

Another ? - anyone here tried muscle relaxers?

toggletoggle post by posbleak   at Oct 16,2012 1:33pm
There've been a few small studies regarding sub-hallucinogenic doses of LSD/LSA/psylocibin to treat cluster headaches - http://news.sciencemag.org/sciencenow/2011...d-alleviates-suicide-headaches.html

I haven't tried it myself, but it's interesting and potentially helpful.

Beat yourself in the dick with a hammer til you cum. That usually works for me.

sex/masturbating?

Moving an inch, during a full blown migraine, makes me puke. I couldn't even imagine trying to beat off.

if I'm away from home, I press my face against cold things.
if I'm at home, I shower to get hot, relax, puke/cry and then sleep.

Imitrix seems to work ok.. sort of... it seems to get rid of the pain, but my body still feels like it needs to puke. That an my head just feels like it is full of cottage cheese.

muscle relaxers can get rid of one of the triggers for me (strained shoulder muscles), but do nothing once you have it.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Oct 16,2012 1:55pm
I used to get them a couple times a week all of october and february. now, I can control them better (advil/coffee/viccodine) so I only end up puking/crying maybe 1-3 times a year.

When I do feel them coming on and fight them off with advil/coffee/viccodine, I can still feel the migraine in the distance like storm clouds on the horizon, but it's usually all good at that point.

This is exactly what I was wondering. One of my main symptoms that one is coming on is that the back of my neck and right shoulder get so tight and uncomfortable I feel like my spine is going to rip through the back of my neck.

So if at that stage you were to take a muscle relaxer, does it fend off the attack, or just relieve that particular symptom?

Weird - just having this conversation is making my neck tense up. Holy psychosomatic, batman.

After seeing my neurologist (I have a past traumatic brain injury) about recent debilitating headaches, he said that most migraines can be helped by drinking tons of water. Since I've been doing that, the headaches have pretty much dropped off. Not a cure for everyone but it's worth a shot.

Sounds like a paradox - during a migraine anything that goes into my mouth comes back out bigger, faster, and painfully. Not quite sure how I'd get the water into me.

Staying hydrated as a form of primary prevention for migraines*

My doc told me to drink water until I'm pissing clear all day before he was gonna prescribe me any meds, glad he did.

Gotcha.

Drinking enough water that you pee clear is good advice, migraines or no migraines. I've recently begun doing so for completely different health reasons, and it made a pretty noticeable difference in my health. I do not get the headaches often enough to know if it made any difference there, however.

I had crippling headaches for years. I started seeing a chiropractor. After a few visits they started to die down. After a few months they were almost non existant.

Also acupuncture works great too. I don't go too often but I go here:
http://openspaceacupuncture.com/

It's basically like taking an organized nap with a room full of lesbians, but the results are great.

This is what I will be trying next, if needed. Due to the neck pain that goes along with most of my headaches, my doc thought it might help to see a chiropractor.

If not, the migraines will help my get my weed prescription when it's legalized in November.
