Read it this morning, my only thought was who cites RATM as their favorite band these days?

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Aug 17,2012 2:51pm
There will never be another RATM.

toggletoggle post by Spence at Aug 17,2012 2:53pm edited Aug 17,2012 2:53pm
Only RATM charging 60+ bucks for concert tickets and still expecting to be taken seriously is real.

toggletoggle post by trioxin245  at Aug 17,2012 2:53pm
It could be worse. It could be Chris Cornell.

toggletoggle post by Burnsy at Aug 17,2012 2:54pm
Bands set ticket prices? Nice, when Din plays our first show, I'm gonna charge $6.66! \m/ BR00TAL \m/

Rage Against the Machine is the Rage Against the Machine of 90s alternative rock bands.

A younger VP candidate that is trying to connect with a younger, more progressive audience. I'm sure it's just a publicity stunt and he thinks it will gain him cool points.

He's only 42. Wouldn't be surprised if he actually did like RATM. They've been around for about 20 years.

Then don't.

Years ago during the nineties I wanted my band to start a RATM cover band called The Machine. All the songs would have lyrics changed to be about putting up shelf paper, little houses, white picket fences, kids and dogs playing in the yard, saying hi to a neighbor named Fred.... but there was already a Pink Floyd cover band called that. Drat.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 17,2012 7:40pm
This is probably the best thing ratm has released in 20 years.

If you actually knew more about the background of chumbawumba (before tub thumping) this would actually make a lot of sense.

I had an argument about this topic today. I never saw RATM try to go the way of Fugazi. They signed to a major label and tryed to sell the most amount of their product they could. Which is capitalism. Supposed what they are soooo against. They never started a revolution. They played rap metal with childish angst lyrics to a bunch of frat guys with no shirts screaming “Fuck You I won't do what you tell me. I never saw them holding political rallies trying to spread an agenda. I saw their drummer climing statues at the VMAs and getting arrested. I saw them lining the pockets of corporate sponsors at large festivals. I saw them writing songs about Godzilla for a summer blockbuster movie. I saw Tom Morello hob knobing with the Hollywood elite and going on network talk shows. So don't give me that upside down American flag bullshit when you're taking advantage of what America has to offer. See if red china will put out your political rap rock bullshit.

Someone replied on Facebook “As soon as you start selling records everyone calls you a sellout”. My reply was you can't be a sellout if you were never an indie band to begin with.

And here your argument falls apart, because neither the band or Morello are against capitalism.

it may not be a form of metal that you like, but rage against the machine are our brothers in bringing anger, fear, hatred, and satan in souls across this black hole of a planet we call earth. i don't recall a point in time where the members of this band bashed your projects so your criticisms of them are entirely worthless and the reason we can't have a stronger metal scene worldwide.

I hate Rage Against the Machine. I hate pizza thrash. I hate OP's. I do not care about a stronger metal scene worldwide. It will survive long after you and I have gone the way of the Dodo. I could possibly care less about metal being accepted by the general public. The general public sucks. The scene is strong enough as it is and I don't want to be everybody's best friend. And you are not Raynard. Shut the fuck already.
