Agreed, read it yesterday, pretty illuminating - a nice detailed look at what we probably know the basics of.

I would like to use Winamp, especially for playing FLAC, but for some reason the sound quality is noticeably worse when playing the same mp3 file through it vs iTunes or Windows Media Player. Really odd to me.

This. Good article, the politics behind the AOL acquisition make too much sense in terms of the effects on version cycles.

TLDR (past the first page).

I still use Winamp. It's a little buggy on my newest machine though. Playing multiple video files in different formats will occasionally crash Winamp for some reason. Could be a driver issue. Had this issue ever since day 1 of a clean install with newest drivers.

Winamp has always had Impulse Tracker and other module support. Therefore I will never stop using anything else.

i still use it on my desktop and now my phone. it's terrible at video playback but i never put much effort into it. i just use VLC. and for piles of music, i think media monkey is much better. winamp could have been a great program 10 years later if they were never bought out.

Don't forget after ditching WinAMP Justin Frankel went on to found Cockos and create Reaper, My favorite DAW.
