And is interfering with my plans to bring out of state bands to Boston, by snatching up dates at clubs.
Why hasn't this died yet? It's even more ridiculous then hardcore, but yet lingers on while hardcore has basically destroyed itself.
How many enemies is metal going to have to over come!?

notcommon against the world!!!!!

We played with a whole bunch of nu metal bands in Illinois. 2 of the bands were opening for Dope the week after. One of the bands was sponserd by Mesa. That really pissed me off.

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Jun 15,2004 10:55am
That really pisses me off too.

it is really sad, but the real metal scene i like to think is growing now.... 3-4 years ago it seemed impossible for my OLD band to get any out of state shows... now my new band is playing in boston for our second show... I'd say that's quite a jump how shows are more accessible to get onto now.

I'm also thinking that more people need to stop being an elitist about metal and try to not talk so much shit... I'm man enough to admit that I've done my fair share of shit talking the past few years and I regret it. I've also realized that it only makes the scene diminish or more compact in a sense. We all need to stick together if we're going to make this shit happen.

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Jun 15,2004 11:17am
You only regret it now because you are in a band so it suits you.

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Jun 15,2004 11:20am
or I just realized how wasteful it is to talk shit all the time.

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Jun 15,2004 11:21am
Good, then help me brainstorm ways to get nu-metal the hell out of here.

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Jun 15,2004 11:25am
promote real metal bands to the nu-metal fans... instead of making fun of them maybe suggest some of the bands that you're into...

this worked with my little brother, for a while he was listening to korn/disturbed, all that nonsense. I sorta picked bands that weren't to brutal to introduce him to so he could ease into the better stuff.. such as in flames, soilwork, opeth... shit like that. Now he's into Vital Remains, Malevolent Creation ect ect. Finally, my little brother is becoming someone I can chill with more.

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Jun 15,2004 11:40am
thats easier said then done. It is tough to market to those kids, without help of radio or main stream publication. Converting your little brother is another story entirely, I did the same thing to my little cousin.

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Jun 15,2004 11:42am
yeah it would be hard to do in mass quantities... but an example could be myspace... see a nu-metal kid on there, add him to your list and promote to him/her.

toggletoggle post by Otto/Wormdr1v3  at Jun 15,2004 11:47am
what if, for every kid you converted, like your little brother or cousin, you had them try and do the same for their friends who are into nu-metal? They could expose their friends into harder stuff the same way the were, networking the whole thing out into their "markets"? it's worth a try, kid's are usually cool about checking out new stuff.

I didn't even have to ask my little bro, he's been doing it on his own for a while.

toggletoggle post by Josh_hates_you  at Jun 15,2004 11:57am
whenever i used to put on a show i would find the dumbest local band with the most little friends and have then open for 20 minutes. all their little friends show up and think they are cool cause their friends are onstage and then some band comes and tears their fucking face off and all they want to do is go to local shows

this is good for making you $$ back on a show and since the dumb band opened while everyone else is still getting there/setting up none of the metal bands should care about the shitty band opening.

toggletoggle post by Josh_hates_you  at Jun 15,2004 11:59am
\m/expose the metal\m/

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Jun 15,2004 12:00pm
I cannot sacrifice quality for any reason. Those kids would probably leave anyway.

Musically my least extreme band is Disengaged, but on stage they are
the most extreme band around. I will think of something.

I suck.

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Jun 15,2004 12:05pm
No, I am saying your band could be the band who helps me bridge that gap. I love Disengaged, of course.

toggletoggle post by moran   at Jun 15,2004 12:09pm
No, I was trying to be clever with some pics, but I blew it.

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Jun 15,2004 12:12pm
oh gotcha.
You suck.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 15,2004 1:16pm
this is the same thing that metal josh (rip) would say and do.
if he was walking through the mall and saw a kid with a slipknot shirt on,
he would think that the kid could be saved and give him cds or what not.

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Jun 15,2004 1:22pm
I am not allowed in most of the local malls though.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 15,2004 1:26pm
well, if you wen't such a happy little sex offender,
you'd be able to destroy nu-metal easily.

it can be done Joe, i was at a party recently and i found a dimmu cd and put it on quietly and throughout the evening i turned it up more and more, and people started to get into it
it can be done with nu-metal kids too i think, just lie on your promotions like, "IF YOU LIKE CRADLE AND KORN THEN YOU"LL LOVE THESE BANDS!!!!!"
you know lie to them and when they all show up blow them away with some real metal!

heres a suggestion.....Dont put "NU" in front of "Metal" there are only 2 types of genres my friends, Good Music and Bad Music... You either like what you hear or you don't. So one way to help this situation is to stop sayin stupid shit like "New metal"(im not going to even start with how rediculous it is to spell the word new NU) "emo core'' "youth punk" god who thought of this compound adjective shit? i guess Im an idiot but someone tell me what the fuck is the difference between "thrash metal" and "speed metal" and "doom metal"...ect metal is metal, rock is rock, no one says "nu jazz" or "emo rap" you guys made some awesome points though

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Jun 15,2004 2:12pm
The idea of genres like thrash, doom and death are helpful because there are things that seperate them from each other.
I don't know who created the term metal, but as far as it goes in regards to converting fans of it into metal, it's definately a good idea to just use the blanket term of metal.

go whine to the bands that actually call themselves NU-METAL.

defy labels unlearn what they have taught you...
then click on my profile =)

this thread reminds me of a poll i made a while back

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Jun 15,2004 2:41pm
everything needs a label...what would happen if everything in your medicine cabinet had NO labels on it?

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Jun 15,2004 2:44pm
good times little bro!
good times
har har

seriously though, my point is just that enjoy whatever music you like. Too much emphasis on labels is not necessary, like the music for the music. I know i'm plugging my site here but i have all sorts of genres on it from crap to great...also depends on your opinions but anyhow, you know what i mean

Honey, i have a headache, can you get me the blue pills? No I said the blue ones, you stupid bitch! (slaping sound).

Something Like this might happen.

Labels are important in explaining what you do like.
Otherwise Tool and Slayer would be in the same basket, and Tool is the gayest band ever and Slayer quite the opposite.

and i have pics of both on my site

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Jun 15,2004 2:49pm
doesn't make Tool any less gay.

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Jun 15,2004 2:55pm
if there weren't sub genres (labels) and all metal was bunched into one, if I told someone I liked metal they might assume I like godsmack, and disturbed. Telling people I like death metal pretty much eliminates that possibilty and any further questions from the person.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jun 15,2004 3:10pm
Joe, have u ever tried to book with numetal bands? maybe if you have 2 numetal bands and 2 or 3 or 4 nc bands, the fans of both will come, and eventually start accepting each other...I dunno just a thought to try n help.....trust me, I dont wanna see metal be overshadowed by crap.

toggletoggle post by abhorred  at Jun 15,2004 4:56pm
someone should hold informational seminars at the shopping malls on friday nights....teaching nu metal fans about extreem music...
