even if he had stayed healthy i doubt he would have contributed to music any more than your typical speed demon guitarist playing music that only musicians care about. however, he was a special player and it is sad that he slowly lost what so few could ever hope to have. i'll have to look into when that showing is. i've seen the trailer and it looks pretty cool/sad/interesting/worthwhile.

Can't disagree with that. He definitely knew the balance between "look what I can do" shit and mood.
yea man. you kinda pigeon hole yourself when you really go at the shred genre like that. the guy was just so much more natural than the other guys in the genre. he was like some kinda freak combination of yngwie and eddie van halen. sickening really.
Cacophony ruled. He was also a member of David Lee Roth's band and performed on one album before Lou Gehrig's disease started taking its toll on him. Really feel bad for the guy but I think he's tried to make the best of what life he has.
Very nice.Malmsteen-esque, but w/ more feeling. His wikipedia page says that his high school band played a Malmsteen cover @ the talent show, and being part of the duo w/ Marty Freedman certainly doesn't hurt!
Virtuosity with an instrument does not equal compositional skill. In rare cases, people possess both. Creativity is derived from a completely different part of the brain.
Jason Becker is a rare one, but there's no sense comparing him to black or doom metal. Completely different approach.
