I don't have a bike anymore.. Anyone go mountain biking? It's awesome.
I used to have a Specialized, but it took an arrow to the tires. Anyone got any good recs for a decent bike?

What kind of rides are you looking to do?

Off roading, flat and incline

Okay, so you probably aren't going to be bombing down mountains. A front suspension bike would be fine, no need for rear suspension. My personal preference is V brakes instead of disc brakes. Cheaper/easier to maintain and less failure rate. A good starting point would be to go to a bike shop and test ride some of the bikes. The salesman will teach you some stuff, and you'll have a better idea of what feels right to you.

I have a trek which is good, plus they aren't as expensive as other brands. I guess it depends how much you want to spend really.

toggletoggle post by Alx_Casket  at Feb 13,2012 11:57am
I sold my freeride hard tail last year and realized I should have gotten a MTB too. If you still have the Specialized, I could fix it up for you if it's only a tire issue. Otherwise, this thread interests me as well, since I'm also looking for a new one for this summer.

I mainly got rid of the Specialized because my balls and anus hurt from riding it and because I'm too tall for it.

toggletoggle post by Alx_Casket  at Feb 13,2012 12:07pm
All the more reason to get properly fitted for a bike at a shop.

I have a santa cruz heckler, a trek 4500 and a speacialized stumpjumper hardtail frame that I need to build up someday.

Have not paid attention to what's on the market these days but Giant makes some awesome bikes.

Totally depends on what kind of riding you want to do and how much money you want to spend.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Feb 13,2012 1:27pm
I wouldnt want a super expensive one just yet. I need to ease my way back into it. I'm thinking just average trails right now, nothing too extreme until I get into better shape

i have a trek hybrid road bike. paid $450 for it. it works great on mean worcester hills and potholes. you'd probably want a much bigger bike for a hell of a lot more dollars.

toggletoggle post by CurlyRed at Feb 13,2012 2:30pm
^^ My trek was about that much. I live on a snowmobile path and it works fine there in the summer.

toggletoggle post by josh_hates_you  at Feb 13,2012 2:49pm
Yeah you are a big dude. You fall under what the biker community refers to as a clydesdale. You'd destroy my trek 4500 but you wouldn't put a dent in the heckler.

I'd recomend something like this unless you want a hardtail http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-us/bikes/model/trance.x4/9034/48902/ that's the lowest build at 1500 the highest one is around 3500. They have the Yukon FX for closer to 1000 if that's more your budget. Or look on the used market to get a 2 year old bike that went new for 3k and now sells for 1000.

LOL @ hoser suggesting an ellsworth.

Go to http://www.mtbr.com/ and look up any models you are interested in.

Gay shorts have bum padding which is critical on a long ride.
