Premonition 13 - By now, the musical exploits of Scott “Wino” Weinrich are the stuff of legend. The Obsessed. Saint Vitus. Spirit Caravan. The Hidden Hand. Shrinebuilder. After releasing his solo debut in 2009, Wino went acoustic in early 2011 with Adrift, a gut-wrenchingly personal album written by a man who has survived a lifetime ...of gut-wrenching scenarios and lived to tell the tales. Wino’s latest project sees him plugged back in—both to his amplifier and the full-band format. Enter PREMONITION 13, a musical entity that finds its genesis in jam sessions dating back two decades, when Wino first met fellow guitarist Jim “Sparky” Karow.

THE GATES OF SLUMBER encapsulates the metal experience for true believers. The Indianapolis doom metal trio formed in the late 1990’s with the goal of creating a band whose sound delivered an updated take on the member’s long list of favorite heavy metal greats. Weaned on Black Sabbath, St. Vitus, the melodic might of Iron Maiden and a host of classic bands from Thin Lizzy to Rainbow to Mercyful Fate, THE GATES OF SLUMBER draw deep from heavy metal's most powerful blood and deliver doom in its purest form.

Elder in Providence is pretty much automatic for me.

Show was sick in spite of gratuitous flatulence in the front row.

toggletoggle post by late_rising at Nov 5,2011 12:32pm
Gates of Slumber fuckin killed it, again.

Premonition 13? ehh ... Wino is the man but band was only OK, playing songs 99% of the crowd had never heard, and GoS were a damn tough act to follow.

Gates were by far the highlight last night. Awesome awesome band. It's extremely hard to top a unit like them, one that's been together for years, toured extensively etc. Premonition 13 was pretty good but definitely a challenge to follow the Gates.

Elder was my favorite. Awesome tone all around, great energy, a lot of chemistry among the band members. I've never seen them before, but will definitely check them out again. I picked up their double LP.

The Gates of Slumber singer/guitarist is the fucking man. Metal as fuck and really talented. But it was hard for me to get into the band 100% because their drummer, despite looking like a wise old wizard, was so bland.
