Sam Adams Octoberfest - Continues to be the leader for the Domestic breweries. This recipe feels like it's consistently been on point. At times I feel the hop selection is starting to taste like every single Sam Adams though. Hard to fuck with an American Standard though. A

Wachusett Octoberfest - wasn't exactly blown away by this. Average Marzen style is average. No aroma. Has a bland toasted fruity note to it but finishes uneventful. B-

Had some ganset fest cans last night. I've been really happy with their seasonals

Just had a Spaten Optimator and Weihenstephaner Hefe here in Portland at PROST. Great beers. Looking forward to the season.

Magic Hat's Hex is pretty good.

Octoberfest should not be sold before September 1st.

Sam Adams has been going downhill for years, but yes i will agree that the Octoberfest has maintained it's integrity. Wachusett has always tasted odd to me, every brew has a funky flavor, like they use bad water or something.

Paulaner Oktoberfest is delicious.

i don't even like to drink it until the equinox, but i can deal with September 1. i just won't go out of my way for it. IT'S STILL SUMMER.

I went out to eat on Friday, asked for a Summer, and they said they had already moved to Octoberfest...I got that instead, but it just felt weird drinking it when it's still hot out

eh good beer is good beer. if some hands me a cold octoberfest imma gonna drinks it.

i would normally agree with this, but it's my favorite beer by far. I just hope the winter ale isn't out before Halloween.

I bought a sixer of Sams Octoberfest back in the beginning of August out here, I accused the packy guy of finding some out back and just putting them out. I knew him, so he laughed.

But really, IT'S STILL SUMMER

When I read this it sounded like Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey. In my mind.

the brooklyn oktoberfest is awesome this year

Fall beers are the best. They should come out sooner and leave later.

I am glad I'm not the only one who thinks this...

I have tried so many times to enjoy Sam Adams, but to this day i still hate it. But my beer of choice is Natural Ice, so what do I know?

Spaten Octoberfest - WOW THIS IS THE REAL DEAL! This is a blueprint for real Octoberfest, so you can't really fuck with it. It actually has a very similar taste to Heineken, Hacker Pschorr or Bitburger but there is a profound deep body that will rock you. I'd be very curious to see what went into this, perhaps a line of Vienna/Bavarian malt and hops, obviously. I'd honestly compare this to Czechvar/Budweiser = Spaten/Heineken, in terms of an American company trying to clone timeless recipes. EXCEPTIONAL! A

Harpoon Octoberfest - not bad not bad. This batch is clearly better and more basic than that pumpkin they've been putting out lately. I think I like it more than Sam Adams, therefore I'd take my Sam Adams rating down to an B and give this an A-.

Dundee Octoberfest - ain't too shabby! I'll give this a good score mainly because IT'S CHEAP. scored a 6 pack for only $6.99. Taste just as fine as the others I've talked about in this thread but it's CHEAP. B+

Narragansett Fest - You know, something is up with this this year. I coulda sworn that the Fest batch last year tasted like a bag of leaves. In fact they were so bad that I'm pretty sure I was still drinking the fuckers at Ralph's into mid January this year (YOSH!!), so maybe that could account for such a bad batch memory. Fuckin a. This ain't that bad this year. After getting dazed in the sweet amber red color, I fallen for the cheapest Fest Ale in New England. B+

Tolerable and good do not mean the same thing. You fail English.

Funny thing is the ganaett fest actually scored a b+ on beer advocate.com. yet it only gets a 47 out of 100 on ratebeer.com

Beer advocate seems to be really laxed on their rating while rate beer is super anal.

Harpoon 100 Barrel Session #38 Dočesná Czech Hop Harvest Ale - Excellent take on Czech beer and a wonderful concept to switch up traditional Harvest/Octoberfest ales. Great medium body and bright flavor on the tip of the palate. NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE DIG CZECH BEER. B+

Shiner Octoberfest is usually good, haven't tried it yet. I agree with Sam Adams losing something. I think the hop selection has lost it's power, it's all been kind of bland lately. I'm a huge fan of New Belgium Brewing, they make an Abbey that is amazing. They make Fat Tire Ale, I think that's there claim to fame if you guys have it out there

toggletoggle post by BSV at Oct 2,2011 12:35pm
YOU CAN GET SHINER IN IL??? THOUGHT IT WAS ONLY IN TX.

toggletoggle post by Samantha at Oct 2,2011 1:12pm
Right now, I'm obsessed with the Fall blend of Otter Creek hard cider. I know it's not beer, but that stuff is delicious.

toggletoggle post by IllinoisEneMABradneSs at Oct 2,2011 4:18pm
Yea, Shiner is everywhere out here, on tap even, that's some tasty shit

toggletoggle post by arktouros at Oct 2,2011 8:18pm

Enjoying this Tank 7 farmhouse ale right now. Hoppy and sweetness extremes. Not a lot of beers really get the farmhouse style right, but this is the best I've tried.

toggletoggle post by IllinoisEnemaBradness at Oct 2,2011 8:22pm
Boulevard is some tasty brew. Their sampler 12 pack is awesome!

toggletoggle post by arktouros at Oct 2,2011 8:24pm
great, i'll keep an eye out for it. boulevard gives a good first impression.

toggletoggle post by IllinoisEneMABradneSs at Oct 2,2011 10:10pm
if you can't find the sampler, the Wheat is my favorite and seems to be the most commonly available

Just bought a bunch of Boulevards. Drinking the Quadrupel Ale now. Great stuff.

I went through a sixer of Sam Octoberfest a couple nights ago. One of the better Sam Adams beers easily, but it's still no Scotch Ale in my mind.

MEH... Nothing special.... Wouldn't drink again if I had other Oktoberfest beer options.

Incredibly smooth... Best octoberfest i've had yet IMO...

Nice and crisp... A little bitter as it is a brown ale, but not overpowering. Would definitely get a 6 pack and drink again happily.

So good...Do I get more Magic Hat or Harpoon? Decisions, decisions...

Tomorrow I try these:
