New site? Maybe some day.
|
I hate this shitpile bulldozing poor excuse for a metal website. In an effort to cover everything "metal, man" they call Blut Aus Nord "not Deathspell Omega" and for new stuff they don't want to bother reviewing from unknown metal acts like Burzum, Primordial, and Pentagram they just put "meh" as their review. But the new Arch Enemy track "slays." Today was the second time I thought it was a good idea to go check out that site to waste time, but I will stick to getting my metal news from a toilet instead.

Last week I went to that site and immediately got multiple virus warning pop-ups. Haven't been back since. |

I think this is a great site..

The last few years have brought a whole wave of hipster-friendly "metal" websites, inspired (regrettably, as Cosmo Lee is a talented writer) by imitation of Invisible Oranges and its ironic, self-mocking approach. They seem to be great for people who basically want to listen to hard rock, and will be in "metal" for 18 months listening to stoner doom, post-metal and indie metal.
My problem is that I like many of them as people -- but I am appalled by the damage they cause. |

LOL YOU ARE DESCRIBING MOST NEW ENGLAND METAL HEADS FAGGOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I must say as much as I dismay the majority of content they "publish" there is a story or two that can kinda catch my interest.
HOWEVER, the meat of it is terrible terrible writing. Without a doubt some of the worst quality reviews I've ever read. Guest writers they feature are just lame. The site itself can't seem to review anything distant from a major label promo pack and if they do dig on a some unsigned band it's due to the fact that some guest writer is friends with them and hoping to get a spot on a guestlist with some free swag.
I was deeply enthralled when Ash/Sumerian Records got into it with the entire staff, fucking amazing, say what you will about the man but he knows his shit and made the entire staff look like a joke.
Blog/Writer of year for me is From the Dust Returned
It would nice to see more "writers" practice and hone their craft by listening to material from all over the map of time and genres. As opposed to the posertrend of only touching bigger label current roster releases. |
