http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kardashev_scale

I've been thinking about this since I watch michio kaku say that this current generation will see us go into a Level I civilization.

right now, as a Level .72 society, we are blogging everything, posting how we feel, etc... I wonder if a level 1 society will find that absurd. "why would you waste your time? just go there"

this is all old news.

but in all seriousness, they've been putting a lot of emphasis on the kardashev scale and others as of late. personally, I believe we are already a level 1 civilization, but the public isn't aware of it. we have some really advanced shit being done in underground bases that the public isn't aware of.
then again, I've had this discussion with you before and you deny anything that to do with advanced technology being hidden from us.

just remember... $$$$ runs the world. until we're done capitalizing on the current trends in society, we will "discover" something else which will make more money... even though this "discovery" already happened earlier. and thus, the cycle repeats...

They were saying that the creatures of Battle for LA were a Level 1 society. I don't see it. Why would a Level 1 society care about killing off a Level 0? It's like we didn't come to a new home and kill off all the lichen on the rocks. We might kill off some of the lichen, but we aren't out killing off all lichen. I think that the society from Battle for LA isn't a Level 1 yet. It's like when the europeans discovered america, they actively killed off a civilization of the same level. Level 0 meets level 0. Makes sense to me.

in your civilization, hiding watermelons

I liked to think that in Battle for LA, they were a more advanced society, but on a slower development path. Their plans were hatched in the 1930's and their estimations put us with what he had in the 60's maybe 70's. Not the technology of 2011.

more developed, yes. But not a Lvl 1 civilization.
We are a lvl .72

My question...when we level up do we get some kickass new abilities? Or just some cruddy stat boosts?

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at May 2,2011 5:58am

I think even having a casual conversation about reaching levels 2/3 is a little silly. The human race will not last that long.

There's only two types of civilizations: Those that have invented a perpetual motion device, and those that have not.
