non compos mentis was from VT.
funny, I was just talking to someone about how I've never been to a metal/hc show in VT
from what I know there is oly higher ground and 242 Main st. in VT for places to play. I'm not sure where you are located in the state.
bands:
  • the Cancer Conspiracy

  • Drowningman

  • Chainsaws and Children (though I think they moved to boston)

  • Fall to Ashes

  • Assemble the Remains

  • Ninja Death Squad

  • River City Rebels

  • Suffer the Masses

    http://golocal.mp3.com/gir?genre_id=0016&g...our+music.x=18&find+your+music.y=11

I think that would be a great place to start looking for VT bands.
As I'm not from VT, I don't know...
search there on mp3 for bands form VT and you'll find tons of local bands.
Maybe RTTP will take a road trip out to the show too...

well having another neighboring scene could inflate nh and ma shows

toggletoggle post by Peta Furst at Jan 22,2003 9:18pm
thanks for the help. is there anyone in vermont reading this, does anyone know if there is a decent hardcore/metal scene in the brattelboro area?
Are there any bands willing to travel to vermont for a benefit show that would pay little ($30-40) to nothing?
Anyone know what the turnouts are like in vermont.
If I can get a decent amount of bands interrested this show would probaly happen in may sometime in Brattelboro or Putney Vermont

you can IM me on instant messeger at basslordmofo or email pfurst@mail.putney.com

one of the guys from Non Compos is now playing in Drowningman, the one with three balls

I grew up in VT, in HS there was a ton of great places to see bands, like 242, but now the only places for heavy bands to play are either 242, or Club metronome, or High Ground, just out side of Burlington. We've played at Metronome before, awesome venue, i recomned it to everyone. Burlington is where the "scene" is pretty much, and it's very college based, obviously because of UVM. But the good side is that it's very open also. Big Heavy World does a lot to promote VT acts of every genre. And Higher Ground will be open again in the fall, they closed temp., to move to another location because the town of Williston wanted a road or something to go through where the club was.

my old band played in this place called the Common Ground in Brattleboro. the owner lied about a pipe bursting beacuse he was afraid of having a metal show there. we ended up tracking him down in a local tea shop and getting the key to the damn place.

How did I miss this thread? It's so funny to know that people still remember some of the bands I saw back when I was in high school. I have a lot of hilarious stories about some of these bands.

The Fags: My aunt works for the postal service and used to deliver mail in the neighborhood where Eugene from The Fags lived. One time, a letter addressed to "The Fags" ended up in the wrong mailbox. The next day, she found the letter all crumpled up and torn (like someone got really pissed off and left it in the box). The letter had ended up in Eugene's gay neighbor's mailbox. LOL! Not knowing that his neighbor was in a band called The Fags, that gay guy must have been so mad when he saw the letter. He probably thought it was hate mail.

Chainsaws and Children: They used to provide the crowd with stuff to break during their shows. One show involved numerous old TVs, lead pipes, and crow bars. People were smashing TVs all over the place. Some random guy with down's syndrome who was there had the bright idea of climbing on stage and cutting down a TV that was hanging from the cieling tied up with rope. He fell stomach first onto a pile of rubble and then frantically ran out of the club. Everyone assumed he was just some crazy guy freaking out. After the show ended, and the lights came on, I noticed a trail of blood leading out the door. Then, I noticed that one of the metal pipes had a blood stain on one end where the guy must have impaled himself. Several people had used that pipe to smash things and wondered why the pipe felt wet. It wasn't until the lights came on that they could see the blood stains on their hands.
