Between The Buried And Me Signs With Metal Blade Records
NEXT CHAPTER IN AWARD-WINNING BAND's STORIED CAREER SET TO UNFOLD

Celebrated progressive rock / cutting-edge metal band BETWEEN THE BURIED AN ME (also BTBAM) has inked a worldwide recording deal with Metal Blade Records. The award-winning North Carolina quintet will kick off the partnership with the April release of its new album The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues.

"We are delighted in the opportunity to join the Metal Blade family," commented BTBAM guitarist Paul Waggoner. "Their commitment to heavy music over the years is inspiring and we look forward to becoming a part of the ever-growing legacy of the label. Our new release, titled "The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues" will hit the streets in April. We are confident that our dedicated fans will appreciate it and hopeful that we will gain the attention of some new ears as well. In closing, I'd like to reference a quote from the illustrious Joe Dirt: "Life's a garden, dig it."

Further details on The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues will be made available soon. The LP will contain the first new music from BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME since the release of 2009's The Great Misdirect, which landed at #36 on the Billboard Top 200 in its first week of release. BTBAM supported the album with a full scale North American headlining tour and live dates across Europe, Australia and Japan as well as a U.S. tour as hand-picked support for like-minded rockers Mastodon.

Check out a teaser HERE.

About BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME:
Merging unparalleled musical bravery, prodigious musicianship, flawless execution and an angular landscape of forward thinking ideas, BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME reinvent the rock 'n roll idiom while pleasing their harshest critics: themselves. Joining metal's dexterity and progressive rock's psychedelic, multi-layered experimentation, BTBAM (whose name was inspired by a line of lyrics from the Counting Crows song "Ghost Train") create spine-tingling sound that contains visceral power, labyrinthine arrangement, mind-boggling melody and majestic beauty. The band has released five full-length LPs since its formation in 2000 including Between the Buried and Me (2002), The Silent Circus (2003), Alaska (2005), The Anatomy Of (2006), Colors (2007) and 2009's critically acclaimed The Great Misdirect. The group has showcased its live prowess via a slew of world headlining tours and has participated in major touring festivals including Ozzfest and the Radio Rebellion and Progressive Nation tours. Since its inception, BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME has sold nearly one half million records and proven itself as a progressive rock pacesetter whose modernist clang pegs it as a paradigm to be followed and a yardstick by which other bands are measured.

In addition to Waggoner, BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME features Tommy Rogers (vocals / keyboards), Dustie Waring (guitar), Blake Richardson (drums / percussion) and Dan Briggs (bass).

"daring, eclectic, and dizzying…serpentine guitar heroics…brilliance" - THE ONION

"Inspired equaly by Yes, Dream Theater and Dillinger Escape Plan, the North Carolina extreme-prog band Between the Buried and Me think nothing of combining furious death metal rhythms and complex math metal licks with neoclassical leads and airy, atmospheric interludes." – GUITAR WORLD

"This North Carolina quintet has made a career out of stirring prog, emo, jazz, electronics, and what-have-you into the metal pot…diverse would be an understatement" - STYLUS

"Between the Buried and Me have evolved into a progressive band in the truest sense of the word, an alchemic group who concoct innovative, multi-genre fusions rather than a metal outfit with experimental pretensions." – ALTERNATIVE PRESS

"Nearly 10 years and six albums in, these guys are still at the forefront…the main reason: their sheer musical talent. If you ever wondered what Dream Theater's prog-metal might sound like if they had been raised on Dillinger Escape Plan and Metallica rather than Deep Purple and Iron Butterfly, Between the Buried and Me have the answer…a jaw-dropping and cathartic sound that few bands can even manage." - CLEVELAND SCENE

I initially read the headline as the name of the new album.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Feb 22,2011 2:50pm
sheer musical talent with no direction or sheer creativity. too much meshing of styles and not enough originality. at least, that's always been my opinion on their first two albums. no idea what the other stuff sounds like. dont really care.

Good band but they do suffer from dream theater syndrome

toggletoggle post by immortal13 at Feb 22,2011 2:53pm
Hopefully the new one is better than The Great Misdirect. I wasn't a fan.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Feb 22,2011 2:55pm
my favorite release from them was the Tribute album they did called "Under the Covers"

everything is good musically but not memorable or attention grabbing to me.

This image is spot on hahah. I've spent too many nights blazed the fuck out of my mind with Colors blasting in my car. I can't possibly not like them, but their newest album is god-awful and I really wish they'd just return to the Silent Circus era.

I like Alaska a lot.

The other albums... not for me really. Most of my friends have a massive hard-on for Colors... I don't see (hear) it.

I enjoyed Colors...once.

toggletoggle post by MillenialKingdom  at Feb 23,2011 1:38pm
I think being on Victory really limited them. They're better off now.

toggletoggle post by immortal13 at Feb 24,2011 10:26am
I'm with Jake, I hope they go back to the silent circus era. I love Colors, but silent circus is where it's at.

My summary of this band:

toggletoggle post by immortal13 at Feb 24,2011 10:38am
I think you're confusing them with The Faceless.

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Feb 24,2011 11:07am
No, I hate the Faceless too.

Yeah, I get it, BTBAM can play, and alot better than me. I just don't care what they are doing. Twiddling and tweedling just gets annoying after 30 seconds. A band either grabs my attention or doesn't, and these guys (along with the Faceless) just don't.

I think the earlier material struck a good balance of big heavy riffs, grind, and the more "prog" (god I fucking hate that word) elements.

Beyond that, the scale tipped too far towards the latter. Interesting that the more complex the music got, the more it bored me to death.

Sorta like what Cephalic Carnage is doing now..... oops.

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Feb 24,2011 11:40am
I know what you mean -- there's a large group of bands now that seem to be trying to "out-tech" each other. Impressive technical musicianship can be interesting in small doses, but I think too much detracts from the overall feel of the songwriting. And it just gets fucking boring...

Back'd, although thanks to Jimbo, I've grown to somewhat appreciate the Faceless.

It just seems that more modernized deathmetal / whatever bands put twiddles and tweedles over real substance and real emotion in music.
I listen to music for the emotions it conveys, not the skill of the person playing the instrument. Ive said it 200 times before, but there are huge differences between COMPOSERS and MUSICIANS. It's very hard to find someone who is both.

toggletoggle post by hauptpflucker   at Feb 24,2011 12:24pm
absolutely. and I personally agree composition beets musicianship.

toggletoggle post by arktouros at Feb 24,2011 12:25pm
this band was on to a good sound with the silent circus and alaska, their metalcore tendencies left a bad taste in my mouth, then they became a laboratory prog band, and their metalcore tendencies still left a bad taste in my mouth. i like their cover of Blackened, a lot.

toggletoggle post by blue  at Feb 24,2011 12:44pm
BTBAM signs to metal blade, prepares another mishmash album of heavy genres with wannabe tom waits parts

with that said, their first full length was the shit and was very well done. i remember when this band had DM parts and they were heavy as fuck.

toggletoggle post by Alexecutioner at Feb 24,2011 1:08pm
Alaska had a few listenable songs, but they ruined most of them half way through the song because they were trying to hard to be technical.

The song "selkies and boat shoes" starts off fucking awesome. The beginning reminds me of the music score for Day of the Dead, which is fucking awesome, however I always change the song after it gets half way thru, because they ruin it with their wankerish meedalies

toggletoggle post by goatcatalyst   at Feb 24,2011 3:02pm
I'm with Blue. Loved the first record and about half of "Silent Circus". They did/do "heavy" in a really interesting way but it's when they venture into what I'll call "precious faggot territory" that they totally lose me. Hence, half of "Silent Circus" killed and the other half wanted to ply me with Midori Sours and suck my cock. Haven't paid attention since. I will say, however that when I saw BTBAM with The Red Chord and Premonitions of War... Fucking CRUSHING show. Shit was kinda fresh then. Now it's old and stale and I make more money than them and look more handsome and drive a nicer car and they drink Clan MacGregor while I'm sippin Johnny Blue.

I still love BTBAM. Not a huge fan of Alaska, the cover album or the newest one, but I like Colors, and love the silent circus and self titled. With that said, I probably won't like their next one.

Hi.

OT: The Great Misdirect took some getting used to, what with many of the songs being the sort that they should've broken into two or more(like Disease Injury Madness. Definitely could've been three songs.), but it's good when you just close your eyes and pretend that's how it is.

I also like how Thomas Giles' second solo debut(weird, huh?) is on MB as well. Pretty good shit imo
