METAL has traditionally been a genre in which definitions matter. It’s all deep, dark and dire, but evolves through its subgenres: death metal (torrid); black metal (cold); doom metal (lumbering); grindcore (frantic); and onward into smaller divisions. But some of the best new metal comes from widening the rules and deepening the sound.

The latest example is Salome, a newish band from northern Virginia that sounds closer to doom metal than any other part of metal’s grid. “Terminal,” out from Profound Lore on Nov. 9, is full of loud, slow, fat repeated riffs, and descends from Black Sabbath and the Melvins.

It's actually a really well written article. A few nitpicks I suppose, but overall I think it's great! Nice to see Salome get some recognition!
