The Coolidge Corner Theatre's Annual Halloween Horror Movie Marathon

Sat, Oct 30 @fter midnite until Sun, Oct 31 @ Noon!

12 Hours for just $20! / Special Double Feature price only $15!!

The Coolidge's Halloween Horror Marathon is once again tossing 12 hours of blood-soaked fun across our big screen! This year we have secured one our most horrifying line-ups ever, starting with a double feature of the newly discovered cult screamer HOUSE and the gore-iffic RE-ANIMATOR! We've scared up some ghoulishly-live rock and roll entertainment by The Dick Panthers to open the fester-tivities! This year you will actually TALK TO THE DEAD with a live psychic spirit reading! Take part in our hellish costume contest in between! Those brave enough to stay for the remaining films in the marathon will be tricked and treated to four more terrifying surprise titles[/B{ as the night stretches on and on into madness! (don't ask me what they are! I don't know either!)

PLUS!
Live music by THE DICK PANTHERS![/B} (they played Bobfest 1!)

A fiendish performance from DEVILICIA of Black Cat Burlesque!!!

HOUSE (HAUSU)

If we were to call this film "bat-shit insane", and simply leave it at that, you would be furious that you walked into this one so ill prepared. It has been described by the Criterion Collection as a psychedelic ghost tale, a stream of consciousness ghost story, and as an episode of Scooby Doo as directed by Mario Bava. All of these hold water, but we must stress that your brain will barely be able to process what is being gouged into your eyes by this cartoonish, cannibalistic tale. It features demonic cats, man-eating pianos, giggling decapitated heads, and more strange mattes, animation and collage effects than you can shake a severed limb at. This one will set the tone for what is sure to be one of the weirder and most haunting Halloween Marathons we've ever programmed!

dir. Nobuhiko Obayashi, 1h28m, in Japanese with English subtitles, 35mm

RE-ANIMATOR

Stuart Gordon's classic splatter-fest, RE-ANIMATOR, celebrates it's twenty-fifth anniversary this month, and we are proud to be featuring this horror classic as the second film in the night's double feature. Based on the story by H.P. Lovecraft, this film tells the macabre tale of Dr. Herbert West, a promising young doctor who has one thing on his mind; Herbert will defeat the effects of death. RE-ANIMATOR is one of the most perfect examples of how blend horror with comedy, a genre marriage that is difficult to master.

dir. Stuart Gordon, w/ Jeffery Combs, 1h26m, 35mm

Hausu owns but I wouldn't call it "newly discovered." Is the screening going to be the Criterion remaster?

Might go just to see the end on a big screen though, I get chills when that cat runs across the shot. You know the one:
