After years of rumors, Lucasfilm is finally hopping on the 3-D bandwagon and has announced plans to rerelease the original Star Wars trilogy and its prequels in the eye-popping format once a year beginning in 2012.
"There are few movies that lend themselves more perfectly to 3-D; from the Death Star trench run to the Tatooine Podrace, the Star Wars Saga has always delivered an entertainment experience that is completely immersive," reads a statement on starwars.com. "The cutting-edge conversion will take that immersion to the next thrilling level."
Head Jedi George Lucas has declared that Star Wars: Episode I—The Phantom Menace will kick things off in 2012, followed by Episode II the next year and so on. So if anyone in the universe doesn't know who Luke's father is and wants to preserve the surprise, you might be out of luck.
Either way, we can't wait for Han Solo to make the jump to light speed.
the sad part is that no one will be able to enjoy any of the 3D movies after the phantom menace because everyone would have gouged their eyes out after watching Jar Jar Binks in 3D

i hope its not the special edition original trilogy...fuck digital jabba

You know it will be the childhood ruining special editions only. Lucas is never going to release the originals again. I think he was quoted somewhere saying it will never happen.
I'll wait until 2017 to hear the original Ewok song again. But I doubt it.
You're right. Lucas is milking it. But, part of me wants to see certain scenes in 3d. I can already tell they're going to have a ball with the Anakin free fall / Car chase scene in Coruscant
heres a idea mr.lucas make a NEW STAR WARS FILM!! DONT DIRECT IT!! HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ORIGNAL STORY, PUT IT IN 3D AND YOU MIGHT SAVE YOUR NAME BEFORE YOU DIE!!!!OR COMPLETLY RUIN STAR WARS FOREVER, I'M BEGING TO FEEL SHAMED TO SAY I LOVE STAR WARS
the redone versions of 4,5,6 DO have some silly digital things, jabba, band, etc... but they also have way clearer crisper looking lightsabers, blasters, and action in general. I'll take the cheesy CGI as long as i get the smoothly rendered action with it. It's still the same story, with the same actors, get over it.
some of the spin off books would make killer movies but Lucas really shouldnt be involved anymore. Shadows of the Empire could be cool. Or any of Andersons work would translate well...
The legacy of the Force would make the best new trilogy, that or the new jedi order..... While the Shadows series has some good stuff in it, i don't think it's as epic as the "VONG" invasion, or the rise of Darth Cadius (AKA Jacen Solo.)

It's pretty pathetic when a video game trailer is better than episodes I, II and III combined.

You're thinking of the Jedi Academy trilogy. These are the book titles: "Jedi Search, Dark Apprentice, & Champions of the Force." ... i actually have all of these in my desk as we speak.
