Pacific Northwest dark metal act Agalloch has completed work on the band's fourth full-length album entitled "Marrow Of The Spirit," which is the follow-up to 2006’s "Ashes Against The Grain." Agalloch commented on the new album:
"Where the three predecessors to ‘Marrow Of The Spirit’ (namely ‘Pale Folklore’, ‘The Mantle’, and the aforementioned ‘Ashes Against The Grain’) all differ from each other, the same can be applied with the new album as ‘Marrow Of The Spirit’ is unlike anything Agalloch have ever produced before. This is also the first album to feature new Agalloch drummer Aesop Dekker (also in Profound Lore acts Ludicra and Worm Ouroboros) and features guest appearances by cellist Jackie Perez Gratz (Grayceon, Giant Squid, Asunder, Amber Asylum), Jeffrey Neblock (Vindensang), and Nathan Carson (Witch Mountain, Two-Ton Boa, SUNN 0))))."
To officially be released in North America on November 23rd through Profound Lore Records, the track listing for “Marrow Of The Spirit” is as follows:
1. They Escaped The Weight Of Darkness [3:41]
2. Into The Painted Grey [12:25]
3. The Watcher’s Monolith [11:46]
4. Black Lake Nidstang [17:34]
5. Ghosts Of The Midwinter Fires [9:40]
6. To Drown [10:27]
I like this album a lot. It's darker and faster than past albums, but the production hurts it.
The last half of 'Black Lake Nidstang" alone is worth buying the album.

Album is good.
Black Lake Nidstang is like Pink Floyd's Echoes. I think it's the best song Agalloch has done.
A Forest of Stars - Opportunistic Thieves of Spring (2010) is of a similar style with way less Floyd/rock passages. I can't decide which I like more. Both are among the best this year.

A Forest of Stars is a really underrated band. Their sophomore release is amazing from beginning to end. The last track, the one with the vocal effects (vocoder?) sends chills down my spine.
