toggletoggle post by XmikeX at May 4,2004 7:01pm edited May 4,2004 7:02pm
YA LIKE ONE TIME I WENT TO THIS HARDCORE SHOW AND TRIED TO LIKE TAKE MY SHIRT OFF AND GET A GOOD MOSH GOIN BY RUBBING UP AGAINST OTHER DOOODS. AND THEY WERE LIKE ALL GAY ABOUT IT.

THEN THE BANDS STARTED PLAYING AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN DO ANY GUITAR SOLOS. I MEAN ITS LIKE THEY ACTUALLY DIDN'T CARE ABOUT MUSIC THEORY AT ALL! WTF IS THE POINT OF PLAYING MUSIC IF ITS GOING TO BE ABOUT "FUN" AND NOT ABOUT MATH AND BEING A BUNCH OF STUCK UP ASSHOLES TRYING TO OUT DO EACHOTHER.

THEN I STARTED CHANTING "PAN-TER-A!" AND FUCKING NOBODY ELSE WOULD. WHAT A BUNCH OF POSERS I SHALL SMITE THEM WITH MY LIGHTNING BOLT! YOU WILL SUFFER BEFORE THE WRATH OF THE UNHOLY WARLOCK WARRIORS OF THE NORTHERN REALMS OF NORWOOD!!

toggletoggle post by retzam at May 4,2004 7:05pm
I can't tell if you were making fun of hardcore, metal, or this thread.

But either way, I think you meant Norway, not Norwood...

toggletoggle post by XmikeX at May 4,2004 8:21pm
no, i meant norwood. as in the weiner town next to westwood. and the entire tr00 norweigen black metal hordes that live in towns just like it and sacrifice virgins only after their homework is done, and the cat's litter box is cleaned out.

toggletoggle post by TheGreatSpaldino   at May 4,2004 8:27pm
like that tool that tried to start that aryan rally or whatever last metalfest... he definitely hails from Norwood

toggletoggle post by intricateprocess   at May 4,2004 8:34pm
hahahaha "sacrafice virgins only after there homework is done"

thats funny as goddamn hell
after homework is done, they pillage the nearest mall food court

toggletoggle post by tbone_r  at May 4,2004 9:22pm
oh mikexmike, the world needs more people like you

toggletoggle post by retzam at May 4,2004 9:44pm

The only people who take their shirts off at shows are the 30 year olds who won't let go of their highschool jock days.

I thought all the metalcore bands that you listened, and the one that you play in, were really into math.

The fact that you associate current-day Pantera fans with smiting lightening bolts makes my mind boggle.

<<I thought all the metalcore bands that you listened, and the one that you play in, were really into math. >>

nobody in letters knew anything about music theory. or cared for that matter. except for maybe tom. nick was good at math only because he's asian.

and i don't much consider all out war a math rock band.
gong.

I meant Shading the End, or some 3 word poetic thing, and by metalcore I meant bands like unearth (although I'd call bleeding through metalcore, too)

toggletoggle post by XmikeX at May 4,2004 10:47pm
yeah i wasn't in shading the end.

sorry.

toggletoggle post by XmikeX at May 4,2004 10:48pm
and i don't listen to unearth either....or bleeding through.

yeah.

toggletoggle post by Pat Meebles at May 4,2004 10:54pm
Eh, whatever. It's all the same to me. Metal with pointless one note breakdowns and ripped off stage antics (synmetrical guitars) and then called hardcore.

toggletoggle post by XmikeX at May 4,2004 11:03pm
we'll i'd have to agree with you there. there's really only so many ways to chug an open E chord, and earth crisis did all of them. The open E chug breakdown got really popular in the late 90's, and early 2000's influx of metalcore bands. back then it was something new. it was kind of a post-modern concept in a way, the idea that you could accomplish something with just one note. but it was over used an abused so quickly, and so poorly that it really became a crutch for bands who had nothing new to offer. i think in 2004 theres no excuse to still be trying to force the same 1 note breakdown into every song.

toggletoggle post by Pat Meebles at May 4,2004 11:07pm
So you agree that most "hardcore" and metalcore is just watered down metal? I use the term metalcore loosely, because metal has so many subgenres that you can't call something metalcore and expect it to only apply to one style (in my opinion).

toggletoggle post by XmikeX at May 4,2004 11:30pm
I think alot of the bands that started these unfortunate trends (18 visions, skycamefalling) were really just closet metal kids, trying to grab onto the rising trend of emo being incorporated into hardcore, looking for a marketable image and sound. It was the idea that you could be tough (still having a heavy sound), and sensative (with psuedo-poetic lyrics, clean parts, and feminine in appearance). The end result was really just a mold for a prototypical "metalcore" band that everyone would follow, and that was never really any good to begin with.

how emo got mixed into hardcore in the first place is beyond me.

For once, you and I find common ground. The appeal of From Autumn to Ashes baffles me.

One thing is for sure.

HARDCORE>METALCORE

I dont know where you idiots get the idea that STE was a metalcore band. Just because certain members in STE looked like hardcore kids at the time doesnt mean we were a fucking metalcore band. For christ sake litsen to the mp3's on this website, or check a review of it at www.grindead.cjb.net. I just wanted to confirm this ......dammit.

I have never seen any black metal band do that. But metal bands really pioneered it, and then these lame assholes took the idea (I've seen atreyu do it too).
