Been getting BSOD due to a driver conflict issue with an nvidia driver. I've tried every suggestion I've found which leads me to believe its one of my GPUs thats failing. Which sucks. Luckily I'm running two in SLI so at least one should be able to go on.

Get a Mac. They never break. Or crash. And make you a good person.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I will never leave the master race.

toggletoggle post by arktouros at Jul 13,2010 10:32am
I hear soldering the card to the slot works. You just have to use a fuck ton of solder.

toggletoggle post by reimroc at Jul 13,2010 10:34am
hahah i'm not retarded ark. i guess i'll wait for steve's insight too about dowsing my rid in wd40 to help the information flow faster.

You cam have my trustworthy Pentium 133mhz 16MB Ram 14.4 modem machine sitting in a barn.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 13,2010 10:34am
that sounds like the worst idea I've heard.
unless that was sarcasm. then, I think that he should.

No one has mentioned it yet, so it's worth a shot. Have you deleted your system32 folder yet? I also take it you haven't tried a barrell roll just by the way this conversation has taken place.

i have yet to try taking out one of my two cards to see if it is one of my GPUs thats failing. since i've tried all the suggestions from google involving the driver itself I'm fairly certain one of my cards is going down the shitter.

toggletoggle post by arktouros at Jul 13,2010 10:37am
solder + wd40 + ducttape = all you need these days with these screwless cases. right?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 13,2010 10:38am
I like how you are confusing software and hardware issues. are you my mom?

toggletoggle post by reimroc at Jul 13,2010 10:38am
IN A PERFECT WORLD, YES.

toggletoggle post by reimroc at Jul 13,2010 11:00am
fuck i really don't want to have to replace both my GPUs. i was so hoping this would just be a software issue.

toggletoggle post by arktouros at Jul 13,2010 11:01am
nah just rip out the bad one. choose wisely.

toggletoggle post by slag nli at Jul 13,2010 4:14pm
Use your powers of deduction. Troubleshoot. Locate the issue.

toggletoggle post by dertoxia   at Jul 13,2010 8:42pm
You could try running dxdiag.exe and if you havn't already you should run a memtest just to rule out memory. A BSOD reporting nv4_disp.dll doesnt automatically mean dead video card. Bad memory can cause all sorts of wacky problems.

Does nVidia provide diagnostic software?

Did you try swapping out the card for another?

toggletoggle post by dertoxia   at Jul 13,2010 8:53pm
The biggest question is if the blue screen is reliably repeatable. If it happens everytime then you can mess around with swapping the cards around and it should be obvious when it's fixed. But if it's a random BSOD then good luck.

I diagnose shit like this all day and there's not much worse than when someone shows up with a computer and the only info they give me is "this weird blue screen flashes every couple days". It's almost impossible to figure out unless the minidump directly identifies a bad driver file. But even then, bad ram or a faulty motherboard can cause the video driver to throw a blue screen.

You could always just pick a card and pull and then use your computer just as you would normally......if it still blue screens then swap the cards, if it still does it....then you may as well put both cards back in cause thats probably not the problem.

toggletoggle post by dertoxia   at Jul 13,2010 8:54pm
...well unless both cards are shot that is.

toggletoggle post by reimroc at Jul 13,2010 9:45pm
it was the driver file nvlddmkm.sys causing it btw

toggletoggle post by dertoxia   at Jul 13,2010 10:42pm
lol that file has a bad reputation.

toggletoggle post by Conservationist  at Jul 13,2010 11:28pm
Update your motherboard drivers and direct X to latest compatible version first. Then keep careful track of what's running when the thing bones.

toggletoggle post by menstrual_sweatpants_disco   at Jul 14,2010 7:13am
format HDD, install fresh OS, chipset drivers, vid drivers, sound drivers, whatever else.

If still poopy then run memtest like like 12 hours

if still poopy, run on 1 card then swap to see if hardware problem

if still poopy, delete 32 system folders and then do a barrel roll lyke stated earlier.

toggletoggle post by arktouros at Jul 14,2010 9:27am
another thing to try is a mobo BIOS update.
also, there might be a video card BIOS update, direct from the manufacturer (not NVIDIA but whatever brand your card actually is)

I think you called it with the first post. I've been having problems with my rig shutting off for months now, and I finally have another video card that I can test...I've tried everything else.

I suddenly remembered my Charlemagne: let my armies be the drivers and mobos, and the cards in the sky.

toggletoggle post by reimroc at Jul 14,2010 9:58am
Well I removed both the GPUs last night to test them individually and sure enough, one is bad =(

I knew this was the case since everything I tried for the software side of things did nothing to help.

My last build may be my last. Fuck it. I don't have the time. I'm not learning anything new from it and it costs about the same. At least 1 component always fails out of the box too. As it is, I built my last PC to be overclocked like 25% but by the time I had it together and stable I just gave up and didn't want to deal with it. I have a CPU that is easy to overclock and a humongous HSF.

Mac's are great for pretentious kids because they are better for art orientated programs except those kids load up photoshop a few times and just bring it to the coffee shop and then brag about how it doesn't crash. I'll take playing awesome games and not being a faggot over that.

The x86 architecture in Mac's CPU's are FAR superior to anything PCs can do. Macs win for graphics hands down.

toggletoggle post by dertoxia   at Jul 16,2010 8:48pm
Yeah i used to build all my PC's but right now i'm on an Acer desktop. I threw a Radeon HD5770 in it and it's actually a pretty slick gaming pc. Been playing Battlefield:Bad Company 2 on all high settings with all the HDR shit on at like 50fps no problem.

So yeah i'll probably never build my own computer again. Just buy a decent one and throw a good video card in it.

I agree, yet what I'm saying is the vast majority of mac users are flaming fakes who do nothing but surf facebook in coffeeshops.
