Does this mean a new epic original song or a twelve minute Journey medley?

toggletoggle post by ShadowSD  at Jun 28,2010 11:52am
Not that I'd object to either.

Someday love will find me
Break those chains that bind me
I know I'll still love me
Although I've gone and become some Korean guy...

12 minute original song

That sounds like me when we played Ralph's last month. It's even worse when the snot cometh and you're on stage.

Tomorrow night!

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Jun 30,2010 11:55am
suggestion: make sure that rediculous pedalboard is all set up in advance so you dont have to cut into your set time.

toggletoggle post by ShadowSD  at Jun 30,2010 12:07pm
Actually, the pedalboard is really fast, it's the keyboard that takes so long to set up, and we're not bringing it this time because the direct box at Ralph's always cuts out anyway; you might have noticed it kept cutting out on Brings Me Down when we played there last month, and the same thing happened when we played Ralph's last year, so we're not risking it, since there's no point in wasting all that time setting up something that isn't going to work anyway.

Without the keyboard, we only really have to skip Brings Me Down and Mourning Rain, which kinda sucks, but at least loading and setting up will be way faster - and me not having to blow snots in the bathroom right before our set ought to help us starting on time too.

The two newest songs don't have keyboard in them anyway, so it works out.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Jun 30,2010 12:15pm
i talked to steve about that he said there was a problem with the fuse box... i guess the whole stage was running off of like one fuse lol. i think he fixed it but i'm not entirely sure.

toggletoggle post by ShadowSD  at Jun 30,2010 12:24pm edited Jun 30,2010 12:25pm
Ah, that would explain why even the guitars were occasionally cutting out and in during all of the bands at the last show - not often, but every once in a while.

Although oddly enough, the direct box may still have been a seperate problem; the soundguy had suggested that was the issue at the end of our set, and since it happened to us last year at Ralph's when everything else sounded fine, it's kind of hard to rule out one way or the other.

I think given all the uncertainty, we'll probably just play it safe and not bring the keys, we have practice later today so we'll figure that out for sure tonight, but that would be my guess.

i'd say thats a fair assesment. looking forward to hearing the new tunes. should be a good time.

this was the best Suicide Dream has sounded in a very long time. They had a lot of chemistry, i actually saw Laurel smiling in Shadow's direction, usually it's seething contempt haha. You guys are really coming together, it's great to see you back in action. Hopefully the current trend continues unabated. Eternity's End for the win.

someone needs to punch the singer of ffg in the dick. that is all.

Good show, felt good playing the new stuff.

FFG had some nice guitar harmonies and melodic solos, I enjoyed their set. The vocals worked for me the most when he was doing the old Queenscryche style moreso than when he delved into more chaotic King Diamond type stuff, but the dude has lots of presence and a hell of a range.

The Serpent's Mark at that show has to be the most people in the audience that I've ever seen singing along to one of our songs, people at our shows usually just watch even when they do happen to know the words to a song, so it was cool to have that sing-along moment.

Thanks, the onstage interaction thing is funny because its so true, we usually almost never made eye contact as a band live. Part of it is because the songs just keep us so damn busy that I feel like looking away for an instant will cause a fuck up or make me miss a cue (and it's actually pretty true with the way the songs are arranged), and part of it is that improv mentality/real time connection between the three of us that on one hand makes us ridiculously tight even when we're jamming, but on the flip side makes me worry that if I give Laurel or Casey a look they might misinterpret it as a signal I don't mean or more likely just wonder what I was saying and then fuck up. It's like the musical connection is so clear that looking is distracting... if that makes any sense.

So it's always a challenge to find those moments where we can make direct eye contact with the rest of the band or the crowd during a live set, but we did manage to get in a few at this show. Definitely a good time.
