as much as I want to see Gorguts twice having never seen them before, I'm gonna save what little cash I have and just get one dose a few days later @ MDF.
my goal is to watch hockey with Luc Lemay and remind him of how awesome it is to be Quebecois.

yar, they will be different and interesting but I cant say I love listening to the albums in their entirety...it's a bit demanding and wears on my patience.

agreed, its pretty hard for me to get through even one of their songs without getting frustrated. definitely looking forward to their bizarre performance though..
They're doing something slightly different. And I suppose that's enough for the buttdart press to annoint them this much-hyped phenomenon. They're a solid metal bland fucking with the paradigms of black metal. I think that much of the Krallice-bashing would be better directed at the sources of said hype: Pitchfork : Stereogum / Brooklyn/Manhattan faux-subversive music scribes who listen to Pavement and feel a need to legitimize themselves with overwrought hyperbole.
Anyone who doubts the legitimacy, grandeur and ferocity of Krallice, I invite you to partake of drugsmokings with me and then give their set an honest shot. I think you'll feel otherwise.

I don't mind their music that much per se; I just don't think they're doing something that justifies them as avantgarde. I know labels don't really matter, but if they're officially labelled as avantgarde, the you might as well label Watain death metal. Or for that matter, Portal black metal. Or perhaps Slipknot Industrial. Or maybe we can label Disturbed Shoegaze. Or better yet, let's label NIN Crabcore.
Have them do acid, drop the flannels, and throw some saxophones and zithers in there and maybe, just maybe, we can call them avantgarde. Perhaps I'll tell them this tonight.
Fuck the B line... Take the red too harvard square then take either the 66 or 64 those will bring you right too harvard ave without sitting through the BU bullshit.

by "BU bullshit" are you referring to the 3 stops it takes all of 8minutes to pass? If they're not already coming from cambridge then it's a little silly to go out there just to then cut accross to allston. but ce la vie
I guess everything has a downfall. Point it I've taken the red too hardvard then the 86, or 64 and it hasn't taken as long as taking red to green then too harvard ave.. But I drive sotaking the looser train is off limits for me.
I'm really sick and just sitting here napping so I can make it to MDF.

Best band I ever saw. Of any genre. Over 20 yrs and counting of Gorguts in Boston. Over 10 years since they played a show at all. Something very worthwhile happened here tonight.
Some fag ain't me Martins.
Gorguts sounded very tight; I missed most of portal !
Outside of already being back at work on a few hours of sleep and puking on the commuter rail this morning, it was great.
Nice to see everyone as well.

Just coming to realize the drummer of Gorguts was John Longstreth, I'd say this is the band he should actually stick with.

I was getting mad sigilistic during bloody panda. Krallice isn't as black metal as people make them out to be, had way more old school death metal influence than I was expecting. They weren't bad. Portal translated to a live setting so much better than expected. Awesome. Gorguts killed it. Killed. I was slobbering all over Luc's knob after their set.

that is fucking awesome news. now even more hyped to see 'em.

Neat show. Portal was just awesome. Those guys' fingers must hurt after playing those ridiculous chords. I couldn't stay for the whole Gorguts set but they were pretty awesome. I just wish they still had the dual vocal thing going that I dug so much. The "Erosion..." and "Obscura" songs I could make out were bad-ass and tight as shit. Also agree with you Shoes, Longstreth needs to stick with this.
i really wanted to go to this but couldn't make it. i'm sure gorguts will be back sometime in the not too distant future, but i doubt i'll have a chance to catch portal for a while.

At any moment now Portal is going to get signed to Candlelight Records and a world tour with label-mates Fear Factory will ensue.
Portal was ridiculous. They sound 100% heavier and more evil live than they do on CD and Gorguts was tighter than something that is very tight. Definitely one of the best show's I've seen.
Portal strikes me as a band to listen to in a ritualistic setting with illicit drugs. I dig the ultra-dimensionality (hence their name) of their lyrics and crafting non-words, but a song popped on in my car the other day and it's not what I'd call driving music. I can't see anybody walking down the street headbanging to this. You need to sit down with a good stereo and better drugs to grasp what the hell is going on, because otherwise all I can hear is one note and start/stop blastbeats (overfuckingrated, yeah).

In 1993 other Portal listenst to YOU!

i really did not care for any of the bands preceding the main act.
and were it not for the incestuous nature of these bands--the bill could be viewed as just awkward..
worth saying that i respect portal for their music/ artistic vision but i thought the "outfits" were shittier than the fact that despite all the cohesive fretboard work, all i could here was a giant stream of shit...no articulation in notes, no contrast in tone, perhaps no tone at all...
Portal - i thought they were silly. There drummer was WAY off on most of the parts... which when you can't hear ANY definition in the strings, you absolutely need the drums to be perfect. On the rare occasion that i could here some melody, it usually had dropped beats so that the drummer could catch up.
Gorguts - holy backflipping christ dude! these guys were definitely the tightest, most tech band i've seen live ever. And yes, this was definitely the band for John L., he fit the band perfectly, he's got so much more to his drumming than just speed, and he used it all. Ton's of funky grooves, shuffles, rudiments blazing accross the fabric of time itself, fucking crazy. I love him, i love gorguts. so glad i got in.
I guess he was vomiting all over the bathroom before he took the stage. The scent of fresh upchuck apparently saturated his clothing.
lol was this witnessed? i thought he was gna either pass out or spew on the stage by the way he waas trying to breath.
gorguts was beyond amazing. those new tunes were pretty rad. bloody panda was terrible and krallice started off good then got really boring. portal was an experience.
What?! The vocalist in Portal isn't a grandfather clock anymore? Pfft!

I don't know what show you guys were at, but Gorguts' guitar sound was somewhat less heavy than the Teletubbies. Bored the living shit out of me. Great vocal, but that music, oof. No thanks. I tried.
Thoroughly enjoyed Portal, despite not being able to hear the drums at all, and I was about 10 feet away from the guy. Not the type of thing that would translate well to CD I don't think, but at least they put some thought into it all. I like.
Krallice - I like. Again, likely better live than CD. Could do without the vocals. Dying to know what exactly makes this band "hipster" besides having an extremely small amount of press.
Bloody Panda - Started late, ran long, threw the whole night off, but they didn't suck.
Had NO ONE else noticed that Blacky from Voivod did sound for all 4 bands?
I got bored of Krallice pretty quickly, just didn't do much for me. Their music strikes me as untethered, without context, noodling for the most part. It's pretty but it rings as hollow as any second-rate USBM band writing songs about their fabricated pagan heritage.
wait, so someone was behind ryan when he dropped his cheeba... and they didn't give it back to him? You (anonymous person) are a sucker of large smelly cocks.
I was trying to think of who anonymous person was. All I remember was audrey, bobnomaamrooney, me and ouch. It wasn't me; I'd let him know. I checked my car and it's not there
Where were you dudes standing? I don't know any of you but I can assure you I saw no lost cheeba on my end of the floor.
I've met you. You were in sever the skies right? (i think that was the name.) We played with you guys out in western ma. (when my band was called ouch, not Boarcorpse)

yo dawg we heard you like missing all bands sets to drink ryans beer in the car
