a few hours ago it looked like his wife had confirmed this to be only a rumor via his twitter acct, but now blabbermouth has posted a release from her, just 20 minutes ago now. guess its legit. his official website is supposed to have released a statement too but the site is currently down. was hoping this was just a rumor. cranking some dio tunes now, such a bummer. dio really gave metal so much.

This sucks :( Dio was the greatest singer of all time and one of my favorites. i was hoping he'd pull through and be able to keep doing what he loved. his voice was still amazing as old as he was. i was listening to his tunes yesterday while driving through the south coast. listening to rainbow right now. I never got to meet Dio. The first time I saw him live was in '92 on the Dehumanizer tour with Sabbath. Fucking awesome show. I have a VHS bootleg of it. I think I'll drink a lot of whiskey tonite and watch it.
